What that difference between them?

In term of performance and fiability.

With a bigger external gate you dont have to worry about boost creep, and boost is maintained easier, also you have to get a seperate downpipe or have the wastegate welded to the driverside header. You can have it plumbed back into the downpipe or run it to the atmosphere (loud). Internal gates are integrated into the downpipe (ex. THDP's) and use a puck to control boost. Some guys also run co2 to control the external gates, but I dont know too much about that.

When you don't know how an internal gate works: it's mandatory to go to an external and doubly complicate the issues.:p:biggrin:

I think it's safe to say the internal gates have been 9's without too many issues.

There is more plumbing with an external for sure. DD's right about the boost creep issue. I'll also add that you have much more adjustability with one. Depending on the design you use you can start with a 3 lb spring to use for normal driving and turn up the controler to go higher. More expensive and complicated as well but it should also spool faster since the external won't start opening until the boost setting is reached so exhaust isn't diverted by the gate early.

I also have wondered about external wastegate's.I have an external Turbonetics Racegate and I was told that a internal wastegate that uses the (THDP) will help my Turbo spool faster.Do the external wastegate's like I have create more lag then the stock style type of wastegate set up:confused:

The reason the THDP spools the turbo faster is because it removes some of the restriction in the exhaust. The big difference in an internal (factory style) and an aftermarket external is that the exteral doesn't open in the same way. The exteral stays shut until the boost level is reached to open it and the stock style opens slowly as the boost goes up.

I loved the stock dp setup, only thing was I had lots of problems with my setup and when I needed to buy a new dp, only aftermarket ones available were external setup. I'm happy with it, but sucks come smog time. One more thing to pull off and return to smog. Damn you california!!!!! Smog is so stupid! Not the idea, but the implementation!

Thats probably why my Turbo doesn't spool up fast.It does hit hard when full boost is reached but in 1st gear its a bit sluggish.Im gonna get ride of the Turbonetics Racegate and go with a THDP.Alot of guy's have given me different opinions on this.It would only make sense if the wastegate is closer to the Turbo the better the Turbo would spool up.
