I have one lifter than continually "collapses". Its cylinder #3...I think the exhaust one....I don't pay attention to which side it is. Anyway..the side the cam hits becomes concave and the lifter ends up about 0.1" shorter than the rest.

Is this a problem with my cam? Someone told me this was a common problem with cylinder #3...if so, is there a fix or upgrade? I'm tired of pulling the intake. This will be the 4th time.

Try the link in my sig for some history on cams and lifters.
Is the cam damaged?

Not to my knowledge. Its a Comp218/218. Only one lifter has the problem and it not like it was hit off-cent. Its perfectly concave.

I don't know much about valvetrains....I was thinking maybe that valve spring was too stiff or the pushrod was too long and that's why that lifter keeps giving out.

Sounds like the lifter is not offset and not spinning?
Could be a combination of too strong of a spring, and lifter offset.
What is the lifter pre-load set at?
