Lifter preload, do i need ne push rods

I just put a cam in last week, the preload i measured was .020. I know 30-35 is ideal , but will it make that much of a difference? Should i buy a set that are proper lenth.

Yes. You are on under target enough that it could have clatter in the shafts. Now if you were .030"-.060" you wouldn't have much to worry about. JMHO.
 
Cann't see where 0.020 would be a problem. If I was doing this, the engine would be started and run in first. Then determine if there is lifter noise. A little is not bad. Too tight is not good!

This is about where we set preload on the strip motors with no ill effects.
