how much you think a good ste of lightning rods are worth. and how many of you guys have put these in? i have an 83 Hurst/Olds and i absolutely love them, and am looking at a set for the T.

A set up just ended on ebay at $825, reserve wasn't met.I think that auction ended the 4th or 5th.I'm not naming names but I know a guy who has a set on ebay with no reserve ;).It is more complete the set that just ended.

wow!

Thats more than i imagined. im getting a complete good set for 200. all i can say is HAHA

I know Dan McCann put them in his car. I have never considered doing that with my car, but it sure looks cool. As I understand, there are a few minor changes and such that needs to be done.

Dan's install looks pretty sharp.

Completeness determines price.

I paid
$375 for the shifter
$30 for repro knobs
$65 for NOS cable
$25 for welding of tranny bracket

Then I had to do all the install work which entailed some console work and more parts. Used up some .090" aluminum I had laying around for the bracket.

$30 for used console (chrome part) cover.
$15 for repro dust seal
$65 for BFH overlay

Thats $605 and me making all the parts. If you bought a complete setup like Brian has going, you won't have to fab nearly as much and it will be factory. Mine has no indicators for gear position. Note that the H/O console is slightly narrower though and of course it is red. If you have to buy the woodgrained overlay, count on spending some more serious bucks.

I sniped on ebay to get mine and it ended on Christmas eve around 11:30 at night. It wasn't listed specifically for a 4 spd so it went a little cheaper but I knew what I was looking for. I got a good deal on it. Remember that the only 4 spd versions came in H/O cars and they aren't making any more of those.

They aren't great for manual shifting in a racing scenario and you don't want to beat on them too hard because they are old and irreplaceable.

I absolutely love mine.

Email for pictures.

a few years back there was a 84Hurst Olds at dealer next to my dad's shop. they wanted 6,000 for the car and then some one stole the shifters out of the car and it ended up selling for 2,800, so i guess that set was worth 3,200

I bought my set for 450 about two years ago on ebay and i got a regular console that i could cut up to fit for $75, and i got a NOS shifter cable for $35. My cutlass got stolen and i ended up buying an MCSS. Then last year I also bought an 83 Hurst so i now have an extra set ( not for sale). I got my N.O.S. shifter knobs for $50. I also have a friend with an 83 Hurst and an extra set of L-rods.

A few people repro the shifter plate. its sells for about $125. All i need now is people to repro the hood and dash emblems.

im surprised on how many H/O's there are on this board. most people dont know what im talking about. my H/o is completely original 83, and has 67,000 on it. is the shifter cable and tranny mount different between the 2 cars?. its the same tranny so i was assuming it was.

i think the position of the tranny is the same but the some bracketry is different. the H/O has a different tranny pan bracket, different shifter cable, and a diferent shifter mount than a regular cutlass/regal. there are some guys on oldspower.com that would know more about the brackets than me, i have yet to take it apart and look. Also On Oldsgmail.com in the store part of it, there is a guy who sells the brackets to mount the l-rods in a non H/O car.

Itsnotagn: there is a guy that can give you all the info on your 83 h/o like production number/date produced/ what number made on the specific day/ original owner, etc.... if you want i can post his email and you can send him your vin for all the info. heck here's the link to his site http://www.mantei.com/1983oldsfacts.html

the h/o just sits in a shed for now, i dont plan on doing anything with it for quite some time, and dont plan on selling it either. i hate to do it, but its just gonna sit there for now.

The tranny pan bracket must be modified to sit .95" towards the back of the car from its original location. I cut mine, slid it back and welded it up.

I don't have an H/O, it is a GN that has the LR shifters.

I had an 83 H/O for a while. I think the only reason I liked it was because it looked like a GN. Sort of. But what a slug. And a 307 is a PITA. But people do love them. Some guy tried to steal mine.
