I was just wondering about the limits on a stock 200r4 what people have run on them and if they lasted. i don't know much about gm trannys i was a ford guy that got converted and i am still learing about GM stuff an info would be appericated

thanks

Andy.

if the tranny is bone stock it won't last very long with mild mods...the stock tranny could barely support a STOCK gn...that's why they had to beef it up a tiny bit when they made the GNX because it made 55 more horse than the GN...i was making about 155 more horse than stock with my stock tranny and boy it sure didn't last very long! now i am having it rebuilt to be able to handle mid to low 11's all day long...should cost around $1500 with a mild converter...if rebuilt correctly these trannies rule the street/strip...

I think yer gonna spend a little more than $1500 especially if as you indicated, that includes a converter. A billet drum is $400-$600 alone not to mention getting all rollerized parts. A decent converter is $500-$700, and i'm not talking about a re-stalled d5. And if you dont buy a billet drum, you could snap the stock one on the first pass....or it might live for years who knows? but if it does, guess what, your'e under the car again. It takes more than new clutches to live in the 11 sec range "all day long" and if you skimp, the trans will only be as strong as the weakest part. Oh and by the way, the 200-4r doesn't rule. As far as strength goes, it will never be as strong as the th400.JMO:cool:

Well said Squeeze. Along with a billet input shaft and billet o/d planet, you should be smiling without any problems, but it is spendy. Thanks, Mark :D

the th400 may be stronger than a built 200r4 but he said that they ruled as a street/strip tranny. I would love to put a th400 tranny in but i also want to keep an overdrive.

Whistle, the things you have to consider is the 200 4R is about twice the cost of a 400 comparably built. If the 200 is built right, it will be as strong as the 400. The thing you need to consider is are you willing to loose streetability and gas economy, or have the higher outright price. Either way, you will spend the same money in the long run, but with the 200 4R you will be able to live on the street. Mark :D

If the 200 is built right, it will be as strong as the 400.
You sure about that?????? I think physically its just not possible. If a 400 is built right I believe it will handle much more power IMO.
