Hi everyone, I'm new to the site and I have a question. I'm having a 2004-R put together this spring, and I'm debating about running a lockup converter. Fuel economy really isnt a big deal, the main reason I'm getting the OD is so my motor isnt buzzing 34-3500 all the time cruising. What are the pros and cons of lockup and non lockup converters? Lockup converters are really heavy arent they? The shop that will be doing the rebuild only runs expensive converters, and the lockup Vigilante he priced at around $720.00 for me. Thats an expensive converter! The good non lockup was only around $450.00. This car is more of a weekend cruiser, and I dont normally drive it very far. The only other question I have is, when you have a non lockup, what happens when your cruise RPM is lower than the stall speed of the converter? Sorry for the long post, but I wanna do this right. TIA

I guess the only two things I can really think of are price, and the fact that I would like to stay away from having to do any funky wiring to work the lockup because I have an old car with no computer. Am I overreacting, or is the lockup totally worth it on a non daily driven street/strip car that doesnt often take long highway cruises? Having the 2004-R with the non-lockup couldnt be worse than my TH-350 with Holeshot 3600 stall I have now could it? I trust your opinion Bruce, because I asked this same thing on another message board, and they all said "Ask Bruce" :D

I hate riding around with the converter slipping all the time ..thats only one reason I like the lockup

other is locking it up while running and getting that stick shift pull out of it.

I recomend the extreme9/11 converters highly

not only do I have one in my car but nave seen the difference in a 470 ci pontiac that we took a level 10 converter out of and went to one of Bruces 9/11 converters and it worked night and day better

dont fall for imitations either there are others trying to steal a good thing but have been not so lucky
