Ok I recently purchased an alarm and I do not have a wiring diagram of the car. So In turn, I would like to ask anyone out there, if they can tell me off hand which wire is what. This would save me a bundle of time. I would like to keep everything under the dash if possible without having to run wires to the doors, trunk, etc.

For a (+) door trigger input which would show 12v when the door is open would be the little switch that turns the inside light on when the door is open right? Which wire is it.

For the (-) trunk trigger input " " " " ", would this be the switch that turns the trunk light on when open? Which wire is it?

Door (-) trigger input. What is the difference between the (-) (+) door input, I thought ground is ground.

Tach Signal input. I believe the ecm has one, which one is it?

Ignition voltage source that has voltage in the ON and CRANKING position. Which one is it?

Dome light. Which wire is it?

What kind of door lock wiring does our cars have? Is it a negative trigger system or a positive trigger system, or is it reverse polarity. And where are these wires?

I know I sound like a broken record but thanks guys!!!! Anyone that can make this quicker for me Id appreciated it! I dont have a buick wiring diagram handy and the one on gnntype really doesnt help me.

Any of the three IGN terminals are hot in the run, bulb test and cranking positions.

Read the manual and let us know what those triggers do for the alarm.

Have to do them one at a time, slowly. :)

You need to know if they want a momentary trigger or continuous trigger which is most likely the case. IE while the trunk is open you need a continous ground on the wire not just a momentary one when the trunk opens.

The trunk light is self contained for the switch. Positive is switched on the center contact of the lamp through the mercury contacts inside the assembly. You may need to tie a wire to the bulb itself or the center contact of the socket.

Very delicate surgery and the wire must be small and still allow the lamp to insert and twist in. Not an easy task.

Otherwise installing a few pin switches might be your best bet for the ground triggers.

You sure you need all the triggers? What are they for? :)

One easier way to do the positive trunk trigger would be to get a second mercury switch and tap into the positive wire for the existing trunk light. Mount the second trunk light without a bulb just a wire to the alarm. It would be easy to solder and connect to with no bulb needed. :)

I'm sure alarm companies have mercury type switches that you can position to switch properly when the trunk opens. Prolly more costly than a junkyard trunk light however. ;)

I believe the ignition while cranking is for the remote start.

Mainly, I would like to know where I can find the door lock wires and door/trunk trigger wires under the dash. This way I will not have to run any heavy wire.

I wont be messing with the mercury switch. All I know is the trunk trigger and door triggers just need to be a trigger that provides 12v when the door/trunk are open, to me I would think that this is the same as the trunk light/(dome)door light because when they are open they provide 12v for the bulbs. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

It don't work that way.

Power is supplied via the CLK/LTR fuse at all times to the trunk.

It is switched inside the little metal housing where the bulb is.

No wires from that lamp go to the front of the car other than the +12 power feed that is always on.

The places that the +12 is supplied to those lamps when they light, whether the trunk or dome lamps, is actually right inside the housing itself.

The door minus (-) trigger can be taken off the pin switch in the drivers door. It grounds when open.

This doesn't sound like it will be an easy project.

Yeah it wont be easy, I was provided with my own switch but when you say the pin switch on the door, do I have to run wires to the switch or are some of the wires going through the hole int he door to the dash connected to it? The information signal for the light has to get there somehow right?

Scott

Yup white wire on any lamp that comes on with the door open will go from +12 to ground when the door opens.

Footwell lights should be the easiest.

Always check operation with the meter first. :)

Remember your dash light switch also can turn on the dome interior lamps and provide this ground that could mess up your alarm system late at night if you need to read a map or something. Not sure what happens in that case. Prolly nothing.

Use the pin switche for the trunk ground trigger.

If they are an isolated 2 wire pin switch you can use that for the power trigger. Those are rare however and I doubt they gave them to you in the kit.

Going to watch the Yankees and eat now.

See ya later. :)
