Looking at a GN

Hello, I am in the market for my first GN. I am looking for a well kept, solid car. I prefer to buy one that is mostly stock because my first hand knowledge of these cars is a little limited. I would like to eventually add appropriate performance mods resulting in a nice riding, 12sec car. I usually catch the performance bug with all my previous cars so who knows. I'm looking at a 87 GN with 120,000 miles on the clock. The car needs a fresh coat of black paint, but it is rust free and solid. It is not a t-top car. The interior is in good condition. The owner took me for a ride today and the car ran pretty good. The trans shifted pretty hard IMO chirping the tires in 2nd(Normal?) but seemed to redline without any stutter. I was trying to check for white or bluish smoke while cruising, but I didn't see anything. The owner installed new plugs/wires early this summer, new airfilter, brake pads, fuel filter. He said the car is 99% stock with the exception of 5 different chips. He is the second owner, car came from california, 2002. One concern of mine is he has one chip installed, one "stock" chip, and 3 he doesn't know anything about? He also said the original owner gave him 50lb injectors and said "these go with the race chip!" I wished the guy knew more, I guess I was taken back and leary of his lack of knowledge about his own car. What do you guys think? The owner told me $10,000 and it's mine. The car is in Lincoln, NE. Im in Omaha and I don't know of any buick specialists around here. I know a guy who has tuned a few Buicks before, but nothing else. Sound like a decent starter GN? Any advice would be great! Thanks

At $10K..

No one has any advice? Thanks anyway

that car, with that many miles on it, adding $3-5K in paint, ft end rebuild, etc, you are "upside down"...
Don't forget the "little things", like valve springs, timing chain, etc. All are due at kind of mileage...If you could buy it for $2-3K less, that may make it a more reasonable deal
Run a CARFAX!....JMO...

Thanks Chuck! I was thinking the same thing. The right one is out there somewhere....

I am in Lincoln/Omaha quite a bit on business, if ya need help I can assist. Sounds like a good chunk to me without seeing it.

I appreciate the advice and support! There are a few nice cars for sale on here, but it seems like they sell quick!!!
