how would i complete a repair on body mounts?
i found body bushings rotted out on the back of my car. position 6 and 7 on the passenger side the bolts are loose and it seems what ever they bolt into is rotted and will not loosen or tighhten. they just spin with a crunching sound. position 6 on the driverside is completely rotted away. enlarged hole in the frame and just rust where the bolt should be.
I am not loking to take body completely off the frame. but do see there is almost no room to work.
all ideas and experiences welcome.
Thanks Robert

Now I can't speak from direct experience (yet) but from what I've read, it sounds like the nuts are spinning in their cages. You're going to have to cut through the body from the top and either cut out and replace the nuts and bolts, or at least weld the nuts to the body so you can hopefully get the bolts out. As for the hole in the frame, I believe G-body Parts sells patch washers that can be welded into the frame to repair the damage. Bad news is, you'll pretty much have to lift the body off the frame at least a little ways to do these repairs. You may as well get a full kit and do all the bushings while you're at it.

6 & 7 can be accessed through the trunk area - use a hole saw and drill a 2 1/2 - 3" hole above the locations. My 6's on both sides were both stuck and spinning. Turned out the cage's spot welds had broken free when I tried to remove the bolt.

My advice to you is to expose the cage and then you need to get a torch and turn the bolt CHERRY RED!! shoot with PB blaster or something similar and repeat several times. This will allow the blaster to wick into all the rusted crevices. Soak it and let it sit for a few days. Then get it cherry red again and start removing - I ended up welding a nut on the topside of the bolt of mine since the bottoms snapped off but you may not have to go that far.

weight

about how much of the cars weight is the body?
think it can be managed buy removing things like hood and fenders, truck lid, doors and possibly seats? looking at it i may need about 12in off the frame to make repairs.

Try this

I dealt with Conrad up in Canada....he knows what is going on with rusty G bodies!!! Take a look at: index He makes repair panels that fix what you are trying to do.

project complete

i cut thru trunk floor and found the pos 6 had rusted completely thru the body. i removed the mount by pulling it thru the hole. i cleaned up the frame and cut a 1 1/2 washer to fit and welded it in the frame. i bult plate to cover the hole in the body where the caged nut should have been and welded it in.
all the other mount changed out with no troubles.
thanks to all that responded with advice.
