Just pulled my Art Carr non lock 9.5" converter out and put in a D-5. There is way too much lag with the stock converter, and the only reason I pulled the A/C converter out was to get lockup for better gas mileage. But the lack of stall speed on this D-5 is killing me. Not to mention the power it takes to spin it. Feels like Ive lost 100hp.
This is the converter I have, Converter It's in perfect condition. Not one wear mark anywhere and it worked perfectly. Spool lag was non existent and the torque multiplication was unreal. Felt like a rocket even at part throttle. I would start building boost with the brake at around 2800-3000. On a flat highway, I would pull anywhere from 2400-2700rpm at 70-75.
I'm looking for a good converter thats a proven performer. I'd like to have around 3400 stall with lockup. No converters with fried or worn out clutch disks!
I'm looking for a straight up trade. This converter isnt cheap, so I would rather not trade for some cheapo unit.
