The car has 44k original miles on it. I got into it a bit then all of a sudden hardly any transmission response in any position. I was lucky to get it in the garage. Doesn't really feel like its engaging now when putting it in gear. I have to do some further investigating as it just happened last night. Torque converter maybe ? I am pretty good with engines ..... transmissions not so much. Appreciate any help / suggestions.

Thanks

Had that happen to me years ago . . . Broke the input shaft. Hope you have better luck.
AssUMing oil is good . . . And no fwd or reverse . . . More than likely the trans will need to come out for inspection.

Thanks..... Not sure on the reverse I will have to check that tonight. Seemed like my oil pressure dropped as well.... Needless to say I am confused at this point. I knew it would have to come out to put a 2800 stall in it but the thing has had ZERO issues and felt tight since I have had the car. I am new to these cars and learning a lot rapidly but this one has me baffled. It was making a noise like a exhaust rattle when in park before it happened. Its not the exhaust I just put the 3" system in the thing.

So it does pull itself around somewhat under its own power. Could have stripped the splines on the stator. The stock ones aren't heart treated.

Yeah it will but I mean BARELY .... had to put it in 1st after it cooled off a little and took some serious RPM out of he motor to get it up my hill of a driveway in the garage. Thanks for responding by the way.... Damn tranny was just serviced .... fluid looks like new still. I am thinking its not the tranny but something between it and the motor as your suggesting

Or maybe I snapped the forward shaft.... either way I guess the tranny is going to have to come out. :(

The car wouldn't move at all if the forward drum shaft was broken. As suggested above it may have stripped the splines on the stator support but that would be unusual for a car that only had 44K miles on it.

That's what I would think.... got any suggestions on what to check before pulling the thing ? Linkage or anything external ?

you have to pull the converter to see the splines on the stator support. if they are bad the pump will have to come out. i would look into some hard rings, larger boost valves and spring and a slide spring while you have it apart. dont tear up the mickey mouse washer putting it back together.
