What work did you have done to the crank? Cranks if not done right cause this. Next time around, I'd recommend you don't waste your money on synthetic oil until your sure the engine will live. 300 to 500 miles is usually the mileage when they start making noise if all isn't well.

No billet caps, stock crank, 3rd 20psi pass at wot with alky, 0.0 knock on all 3 passes.

I bet $5 you pancaked a rod bearing. It will be hard to see in some case (like mine was) but with that much material in the pan it should be easy to find. Good Luck!!

So I take it, it worked OK in the previous motor and you did nothing but have it installed in your new motor by those who assembled it? I only ask because many times cranks are not machined correctly, and this makes a rebuild go south very quickly, by destroying bearings. And that's what you have, destroyed bearings.

It shouldn't cost too much to speak with a lawyer, if you haven't already done so. The lawyer could probably give you a better opinion about your options.

Lots of aggravation.. NO way would I take that mess back to him to "FIX" ! BUT it's your call to bring on anything ya want to go forward with.

Grumpy, I brought it to a completely different shop in Houston that came recommended by several of the TB board members and Buick Club in Houston. Since that old post I heard Conrad’s Racing has went out of business. However, Conrad did sign my certified letter, which I got no response within 15 days, so I did file a small claim. I know you can't get blood from a turnip, however he does have assets. So with that in mind I will file a judgment if necessary. Since this thread started I have got in touch with the new machine shop I'm currently using and they told me to get it back to them. Hopefully this works out better this go around because I'm tired of pulling this motor.

This shop has build and continues to build motors for members in the Houston area, including some of its current club members.
While they have a good record, sometimes things go wrong, and I am sure they will make it right. . . . . . . Be sure to explain that they were chosen to do the work because they were recommended by the Houston Buick Club and its members.

As we all know, in the current situation it will come down to; How does the shop handle the issue?

Let us know how you make out.

I dropped my motor back off at G&G yesterday. Joe with G&G called me this morning and let me know that I spun the 2 center mains. He has offered to do all machine work for free and suggested that I go back with 2 billet caps. He has also suggested that he would have to turn my crank again making it 30 over. So I suggested a new crank, billet caps, girdle and he said if I'd cover parts that he would take care of all machine work "no charge".

So my question is, now what should I do? Do I need a new crank? Do I need a girdle and caps or just a girdle or just caps. Just need some insight as to what you guys would do.

Thanks

I'd just do a girdle with stock caps .. Prob grab another crank to although we have pushed the hell out of a 20/20 crank !. Hope ya have better luck with the new guy!!

I had a 30/30 crank take a good beating, many passes on that & I still have it in the pile somewhere. IF you have the $$$ grab a standard turbo crank or even a standard NA crank for $50 & Cryro it for $100 & it should be fine unless this is a total race car?
Standard cranks run fine but the extra turbo rod fillets help.

Either way, Good Luck to you!! I would be pretty frustrated in your position.
At least you are keeping a clear head about this mess.
