Just put about 500 miles on this new motor (no problems during this time) retorqued heads night before last. Took her out for a spin brought it up to 20 lbs of boost with alky of course, no knock, no issues. So last night I took dad for a ride brought it up to 20 again still nothing, so once more again shortly after. This time when I let off I heard a clunking noise. So I pulled off the road checked to make sure nothing leaking on the ground then and all was well temp was about 170 and oil pressure at idle was around 12. Got it home still making noise, so I slept on it. I reviewed some old threads and tried some of the suggestions from there. I checked to see if noise was still present with belt off (it was), checked to see if I could move crank side to side/up down (felt tight) checked flex plate converter bolts (all good). Exhaust and intercooler not hitting on frame/sway bar or anything else. So this is where I’m at, here is a link to a video I took a few minutes ago see what you guys think. Sorry if the video makes you dizzy but it’s more so the noise I’m trying to get across. Thanks in advance

doesn't sound good

Carefully check you balancer--the pully that attaches to it---the rings on the back, see if they are hitting the front cover. Hard to tell anything by the vidio. Best of luck.

doesn't really sound like bearing noise by what I can tell, but ultimately you're probably going to have to pull down the pan and have a look. Good luck

Fresh rebuild and idle oil pressure is only 12 psi? What oil? High volume pump? What does it go to on cold startup? What is it while cruising at like 40-50 MPH? Does it make. The bottom end rattle at cold start up like you just changed the oil in a daily driver?

Agree the oil psi seems low. Pull the filter and cut open, see any metal shavings?

Just changed oil yesterday (Mobil 1 10-30) cold start up oil pressure is around 60 once it warms up it drops down to around 15 to 20. While cruising its been around 40 maybe more, i'd have to double check. Definatly above 25. No rattle on cold start up this morning till it warmed up. And it is a high volume oil pump. Thanks for quick responces.

Ok I just separated converter from flex plate and this is what I come up with. How can I tell if the converter is crapped out thus causing the noise? FYI, the engine turned itself off at end of video and when I held converter in place it would jerk out of my hand not hard enough that I couldn't hold it but enough to kill the engine most of the time.

Dont put your hands near that stuff with the car running. Use a prybar in the way it will kick away from you if anything goes wrong. It seems that the crank is moving enough to push back on the snout of the converter and made it spin. I would pull the pan and look for metal. Not fun but easier that pulling the motor to find nothing or it was the L/U converter going bad. If you find no metal, Check the torque on the mains and rods. If any are loose it's a bad sign. Talk to who assembled the engine and see if they tightened the cap with thrust bearing after they set/checked it. I know they will say they did but I broke a crank that way before. Drove it a few days before it let go.

i say converter or.. it even sounds like something knocking on the intercooler..

my car had the same noise when i started up my new motor. here a$$hole me didnt put enough washers on the convertor bolts and the convertor was banging back and forth on the flexplate. wonderedm why i had 3 washers under my tire when i backed the car out of the garage

Well it looks as if I found the problem! Now could anyone tell me what the causes are, please.
