i just bought an 86 gn and he had just done the transmission. it shifts fine but sitting still it won't stall more than about 1500 rpm. i'm thinking maybe its a monte carlo converter. can someone tell me how much stall to expect from a d5 converter? or should i just get a 2800 stall? it has bad lag due to this converter i think.

I'm pretty sure the stock D5 is 2200 RPM. But if you are going by the stock RPM light gauge thingy on the dash, that has been known to be very inaccurate on many cars. So you might actually have 2200 RPM... But most likely since the tranny was redone, someone stuck a non-D5 converter in there. Hopefully you still have the BRF tranny though. Easy to find out what you have though. The tranny should have a metal tag near the tail section that says BRF on it. And to see if it's a D5 converter, just remove the dust shield from the tranny and look at the conveter. It should have D5 stamped on it around the outside.
