I understand most of you guys run no lube for deanatured, which I don't really think it's too corrosive, but seems like methanol is somewhat more corrosive than denatured.

When I picked up methanol in the race shop I asked about it and they sold me this redline alcohol lube with it (more meant for RC engines running methanol), but he said it would lubricate keep my pump alive.

But he said only use about 0.5-1% mix, which is 20-40 ml per gallon (just a little cough syrup cup)

What do you think?

What pump are you using. This will determine your need for lube.

No metal..its all plastic. Lube may swell the plastic... careful ;)

Save your money and buy more methanol :D

If your engine has a PCV it will draw oil in. Thats one lube. Most automotive fuels also contain lube as well in theyre formulations. Lastly, if you want lube, put it into your gasoline tank, that way the motor always see's it. Alcohol is only sprayed for small moments in time compared to the time the engine is running.

If your pump has steel inside of it, use a lube. If it doesnt, dont.

Cant be easier.

Well thats a tough question..heres why. See companies like Shurflo make 150 different varieties of the same 8000 series pump. Seals can be viton, buna, etc.. as well as the type of plastic used Polypro, PVC, etc.. The seals and diaphram have to be rated A for alcohol. Shurflo makes a pump you can use with oil's and such . It has the Buna oil seals in it, but doesnt get the A rating on alcohol then. Then you have the pressure ratings on the diaphram..switch variations, cam drive variations, 12v or 120v, bypass style..etc.. its a mess.

As to the Flojet.. only thing to properly do is get the part number on the pump and contact Flojet and ask what the materials used in the pump are. And theyre compatability to alcohol. They make so many..it would be impossible for me to answer and feel comfortable in my help.

I know only enough about pumps to make me dangerous :D And my exposure has been the feedback posted on this board. Coupled with phone calls made to various manufacturers. Asking questions they rather not answer.

I don't think at such low concentration it can hurt the pump. We are talking about 20-40mL per gallon. I am more concerned about the methanol that might get trapped between the steel intake pipe and jet (if that does happen)

I think a bit of proper lube wouldn't do any harm and it can be a bit of insurance when the methanol goes somewhere it's not supposed to.

Well, as per flojet, my pump is specifically designed for methanol use. I was just curious if you knew the specifics.

Thanks
