My stock MAF sensor finally went out two weeks ago. Replaced it with one that Conley's had in stock (dont know where they get theirs from), and I replaced the o2 sensor. Put it on, hooked up turbo link--pulling 6 gps. After about a week car started running like crap. Turbo link--4gps now. Took Maf back--replaced it with another. Car ran good for two days until this one crapped out on me and threw a code 44. Only pulling 4 gps again. well, the next day all of my car buddies were going to the track, so I had to race, right? I was able to race with no code (no lean condition) by taking off my air filter and removing both screens and it ran fine, but i cant drive around like that all the time? So what Im asking is: Is something making these MAF sensors crap out on me--or are they just crap to begin with? What would make them fail? I would go with the LT-1 MAF and translator, but I don't know anything about it + I've heard they are impossible to tune.

Are you talking about idle measurements? Because I believe there ok if there between 4 and 7.

Yes, idle measurements. I think that is should stay between 6-8. Anytime it drops to 4, my o2 volts drops way low and the car leans out and the code comes up. Has anyone had this problem and changed the MAF more more than once?

Quick question - I guess you've pinpointed it to the MAF, but when you changed it the second time, did you also change the O2 again? They crap out frequently, and they can also throw a code 44...

If anyone was following this, or ever was: it was my o2 after all. I guess the new o2 was just faulty. It was a Bosch, so I put in a good ole a/c delco and the car runs like a totally different car, I can't believe that made such a difference. Thanks for the advice Rich

Cool beans.

Glad you were able to find the gremlin :D

Heck, if everything on my car failed as often as an 02 sensor does, I'd never be able to drive the damned thing ;)

Glad it was the o2 and not the maf. The way maf's are today anyways.

Just in case you ever need a MAF, the Translator + and LT1/LS1 MAF are not impossible to tune. To the contrary, they are great tuning aids. Everyone I know/have read about on this board love the results, including myself. The only confusion I've seen is over how to set the dip switches in the Translator, and doing that properly only requires reading and following the instructions.

GM cars in general don't like the Bosch O2 sensors for some reason. I don't know if you run race gas, but I'm very interested in trying the "lead proof" Denso sensors that are discussed here in a recent thread. The Delco units are great on unleaded, but one trip to the track and they're gone...

Sounds like that nasty old "Bosch" O2 bug bit again. ;)
