I just swapped over my GNX dash to my 86 GN and I know eliminating the volt light from the stock dash will cause a break in the entire charging system (alternator won't charge battery when running). Casper's field fix harness eliminates this problem by adapting the wastegate solenoid connector to the back of the alternator. Can't I just splice the single brown wire from the alternator into one of the wastegate solenoid wires? I don't use it anyways since I run my turbo boost control "tuner" style all the time.

I bought a new plug from Advanced Auto that had 4 wires coming out of the plug instead of the 1 the factory has. Use the I/F wire on that plug and tie it into an ignition on source. the factory uses the L spot on the alternator, if you tie that into a an ignition source, you will fry the regulator. It only took me 2 alt's to figure that one out:redface: Thank God for lifetime warranty Auto Zone alternators:cool:

I'm not sure if I understand...so splicing the brown wire on the back of the alternator and tying it into an ign source wire will fry the alternator? I was just wanting to splice that wire into one of the boost wastegate solenoid wires (there are two of them). I figured that was what the Casper's field fix harness did.

NO! Doing that will burn up the voltage regulator.

The brown wire on the stock plug goes the the "L" or Lamp terminal of the alternator. What you want to do is apply switched 12v to the "I/F" terminal of the alternator. You can get the 12v from the WG solenoid harness. Either move the brown wire or just disconnect it and add another terminal.

OK so I buy the 4 wire alt plug and use the I/F wire. Which wire do I tie that into on the wastegate solenoid harness? There are two wires (forgot the exact colors...pink I think). I'm assuming whichever wire has 12V key on right? Sorry if I sound like a newb...my 87 I just bought a field fix harness for this problem but I want to do it myself this time around.
