Can someone please clear this up for me? I would like to try it but I'm just not sure how. I would hate to hurt my transmission if I do this wrong, if you could tell me step by step how to properly shift manually. The trans is the original with 63,000 miles on it. Thanks for any input in advance.

should not be a prob at all for trans or eng. as long as you keep the shifts at 5000 rpm or under. Just stick it in low 1 and when you reach the rpm's you desire then up shift to the next gear. that easy neibhor! :D

It is not that easy. The shifter will go into OD if not careful. I will send the instruction on modding the detent plate for free. It takes 5 minutes and the shifter will never go into OD unless you put it there. Send me a SSAE and i will send the instructions.

SSAE what is that? I am curious as how to manually shift but I don't want to do any mods to the trans just yet? If I'm racing the car or driving the car it's o.k just to leave it in drive, right? As long as I'm not hurting the trans just leaveing it in drive I'll be happy. What damage will driving in overdrive cause? On the stock setup overdrive is the d with the circle around it right? I'm mostly interested in keeping the trans in good condition as long as I can?

SSAE (stamped self addressed envolope) I think he is talking about mods to the gate in the shifter, so that you stay in drive and don't hit od while racing. Leaving in dri. is fine od is really only needed for cruzzin the highway or if concerned about milage in the city.
