Manual steering

Would it be a god idea to convert to manual steering?
Is the steering effort that much greater?
How many turns lock to lock would it increase to?
How much weight would you save?

i can tell you if you drive it leave it power...if you switch to the s-10 manual box you have to do a lot of steering...not that its hard but the ratio on them boxes suck
