Manual transmission question.

I am in the process of building an Ultima GTR kit car and would like to power it with a GN motor. Since this engine was never mated to a manual transmission to my knowledge, what flywheel if any will fit the crank? Also, can the engine handle the shock a clutch will put on it? Any help on the subject will be greatly appreciated. By the way, it will be mated to a Porsche G50 transaxle. Thanks

i've heard of Buick V6 motors paired with manual trannies before- maybe a V8 flywheel or something? i think maybe the 231 was available with a 4 speed in late 70's Skyhawks, but i'm not sure if the older flywheels interchange with the newer ones.
i'm more of a Chevy guy- where seemingly everything easily interchanges- and really don't know what swaps with what in the world of Buicks.

If you want this to actually work, you need to use a stage II. In 2008, you can build a nice 427 LSX motor for what it will cost.

The problems with using a production LC2 are many, including weak thrust, incredibly narrow power band and transmission/clutch destroying torque that comes on like a lightswitch.

I dont see why you cant put a manual behind a buick..... i mean I did.

there were a couple of stock buicks in the 70s and early 80s that used manuals so a theres cars you can use for a donor.

heres what i did starting from scratch.

I used the bellhousing off of a firebird. (BOP its all the same)
I used a hydralic throwout bearing from Speedway motors (specific for a T-5)
Flywheel was from CAT
trans was a T-5 from a 350 camaro
used a clutch master cylinder from Speedway motors as well

Any more details needed?

As for weather the engine can handle it, I would say a definite yes. just pay attention to your thrust bearing and ensure its within tolerance for factory specs. I like to run it on the tight side.

The Stage 2 manual recommends that a flywheel and a manual trans be used to help with the control the harmonics within the crank. it also says that a flexplate will destroy the crank, ----------- I havent seen a flexplate destroy a buick yet, but i suppose its only at extreme HP levels.

Go for it. Aint nobody here has a clue as to whether the LC2 can withstand the abuse of a clutch.
