Manually shifting

I have always wondered:

In a race situation, is it better to manually shift through the gears to drain more RPMs out of each, or is it better to let the tranny do the work?

The tranny will be more consistant, however, if your car makes more power with higher RPM's, then it will be beneficial to manually shift the gears. This is especially true if your cars makes the power up there, and you have a raised rev limiter via your chip. Best bet is to "stab & steer" as consistancy is key in drag racing.
