whenever i'm at the track i just put it in drive and let'er rip' but i was wondering if there is any advantage to manually shifting. if so, what rpm is best?

george

the only time manually shifting will be beneficial is if the engine makes power beyond the wide open throttle shift point of the stock valve body which is 4900 to 5200 rpms.if the engine runs to 6000rpms than shifting off the governor at 5200 rpms will not allow the engine to use that extra rev range to accellerate the vehicle.the manual 1/2 shift however takes longer to happen than an automatic 1/2 shift because the lo reverse clutches are applied in manual low and must be knocked off before the band can apply for second gear reduction.

Kala, kala, ke esie? For some reason I'm looking forward to my tranny taking a sh#@ so I can have you build me one of those killer trannys. Quick question while I got you here, what stall converter do you recomend for my combo? The car is mostly street driven.

2800 / 3000 lock up should be perfect.you must decide on what brand however but i would use the 9/11 if you mostly street drive it.

i'm looking to upgrade my torque converter also. any recomendations. looking for mid to low elevens.

same thing should work for you too geaorge .give me a call for the specifics and we can match something up for you.check site below.

I am not doubting you as I don't build transmissions but why does everyone say the stock stall is 2400?

i dont know but with a stock engine and non adjustable waste gate thats about all the stall you can get out of the d5 and the factory rating is 2050 for this pump/ turbine and 14 blade stator combination.

I may disagree with you since you never stated how this stall speed is determined. My STOCK D5 stalls to 2500 @ 5psi of boost and spikes to 3700 @15psi of boost when I launch b4 the car even moves.

ks:)
