Ok i have a few ? 1)where would my map sensor be located,it is not on the pass fender like it should be and cant find any wires for it. 2)will a 86/87 maf sensor work on my 85. and i want to replace my coil pack should i stay with the stock 85 or upgrade to the 86/87? thank for any help you guys can give.

1) if it's not on ur passenger side inner fender wall I'm not sure where else it could be someone else will help u locate it
2) an 86/87 MAF sensor will plug right in but u might have to run an 86/87 ECM as well which is highly recommended it's one of the easier best mods u can do for ur hotair, as far as ur coilpack either or is fine the problem with the hotair coilpacks is wen they go bad they are not easy to come across as they arent produced anymore on the other hand if u choose to upgrade to 86/87 coilpack u can still buy them new and find them alot easier than a 84/85 coilpack hope that helps

Does your 85 have a digital dash?

If the car has a digital dash I believe that it will not have a map sensor but will have another sensor hooked up to a vacuum line on the passenger fender group.

Don't know if that's 100% correct but just a thought.

1) With a digital dash you do not have a manifold air pressure sensor, but a hobbs switch to turn on the boost light. There should be a black flat three prong connector there near the round switch in front of the relays and ESC (Electronic spark control) module on the passenger side fender.

84-85 Turbo 3.8 Liter Engine Sensors

2) MAF (manifold air flow) sensors for even the 86/87 TRs are only available used. Remanufactured ones generally do not work well. Better off getting a translator and a modern MAF sensor.

3) Coil packs for an 84/85 are very expensive. You are better off getting an 86/87 set up. You will need Casper's adapter harness to use.

Yeah it is a digital dash.Thank you guys that clears up a few issues i was having. And to switch the ecu to the 86/87 is there anything i would need other then the new ecu i have been wanting to do this since i got the car

If you review the "sticky" thread at the top of the hotair section it will instruct you how to install the 86/7 ECM. It is not hard to do at all. It is well worth it due to the extra information you can get through a scan tool. There are also a lot more chips burned for the 86/7 ECM.

The sticky section should be reviewed and memorized to further your general knowledge about your car.

Good luck and have fun,

Jerry jr.
