Forget Al Capone, remember Frank Castello (not Lou the comedian). Any member of his "group" that offered illicet drugs or child prostitution was immediatly eleminated. No questions asked. Al went into many different veniues including drugs so he doesn't really count.

First, It's Frank Castellano. Not Castello.

And he got killed because he couldn't change with the times. The public demanded a product and he was to stuck in his old-time mentality that it cost him his life.

Smart.

and thats my point, all i want is the freedom to make that decision myself. I dont need to be protected - i am an american, and want my freedom as i was promised. Not as the "goverment" sees fit for me.

Not related to the topic at hand, but that comment is sig worthy right there!

Hey, I finally made somebodies sig, thanks Chris!!!

i see how open minded pot smoking has made most of you  Shame on me for not giving into to peer pressure because it was cool.

by the way...rocket man was a marketing chracter used by oldsmobile to promote their engines....

It feels good to live in Cali. We have shops here that you can walk into, browse and purchase. Legalizing it will not increase or decrease the crime rate or fatal car accidents. Honestly, people think that pot users are irresponsible. That's a crock of ish. Ask yourself how many times you have had a couple and did something that you shouldnt have ie driving, working, operating machinery? There is an age limit on pot just like there is on alcohol so whats the big deal? Our country is broke so why not take advantage of a product that helps millions of people deal with ailments. IMHO, in theory, crime should go down because small time street dealers will be obsolete.

I'm refering to the mobster in Philly. It's been a long time (30 years) since I read his biography named "Frank". I was a huge Abbot and Castello fan and it struck me odd that they had the same name. I may have the name wrong but I did admire the ethics to some degree. He was a mobster but he did do a few things that were right.

Funny this thread came up. I can't say I have or have not done it in the past, I have friends that light up occasionally, so I'm giving a fair opinion I believe. One huge difference between pot and alcohol, one is legal, one is not. Regardless of if you think one is worse than the other or not, there is not a grey area, its black or white, legal or illegal.
I was outside just yesterday evening mowing the lawn, kids are on the swing set and BAM, I'm hit with the smell of pot. Now I live in a fairly conservative town, nice newer subdivision, most families are younger with children. We have one of the largest universities (TAMU) in the nation just down the road, so there are a few students also living in our nieghborhood.
At first I was suprised, then kinda laughed about it, then I started getting a little pissed. It probably would not have bothered me at all had it not been for my kids. Its kinda like this, I may have a drink but I don't get sh!t faced in front of my kids, no reason to show to them "its OK to be drunk" at their age. No they didn't ask "whats that smell", but it was the fact of of the matter. Another example, if your gay thats fine, don't put it out there for my kids to see, same with pot.
I guess it was the situation at the time that had me fired up, I popped over a few fences to try and find where the smell was coming from. Didn't find anybody and really don't know what I would have done had I did.
I know the point could be argued into the ground of wether pot is good or bad, arguing that alcohol is worse than pot, ect. There are alot worse drugs than pot, but it doesn't make it less illegal.
I normally don't respond on threads like this, but it is ironic that this just happened yesterday and I figured I would add my 2 cents. Not trying to step on any toes and not trying to say anybody is a bad person for smoking, we (most of us) have probably tested the waters or have been around it once or twice. I don't think it will ever be legalized, too many making a buck off of it being illegal.

What is your POINT??? You say it is illegal and you don't think that will change...great. That wasn't the question.

Do you think that SHOULD change? Not will it...just should it? Would you be less angry about someone doing something in the privacy of their own homes (peeping tom, much btw?) if it wasn't illegal?

That's my point!

Making these things illegal breeds an underworld. Without prohibition....NO AL CAPONE!! (using him as a metephor for all gangsters)

Imo

I believe everything should be legal - Just because it is legal does not mean we all run out and start sticking needles in our arms! Besides, it will thin out the herd a bit. Cigarettes have always been legal and I do not even smoke them.

To argue wether pot should be legal is as silly as arguing about wrestling! If we set levels that accept cigarettes, caffeine, and alcohol, then pot should certainly be legal.

I know very successful business owners that smoke daily for over 30 years, and it seemed that all the top students I met in graduate school were regular smokers. I also did some poking around on the site linked to in an earlier post that seems to confirm my observations and debunk some of the things mentioned in this thread:
