Using a TA49 what is the max boost I should see?

Disregarding knock, how much boost should a 49 be able to create?

Stock Headers
Big Mouth CAI
RJC megacooler
70MM TB
RJC plenum
Champion ported aluminum intake
Champion ported iron heads
RJC tuner boost bleeder

I have seen 23 PSI max
The bleeder is all the way in and the wastegate rod it tight. I am seeing no knock and right around 11.55 AFR. I do not think that there is any exhaust leak. Should I be able to get more boost from this turbo?

Boost

Well I have a te44 which is about the exact same. Last night i was seeing 26psi, and unfortunely I leaned an her a little too hard last night and popped a head gasket just about the 1000 ft mark. It was so cool last night the car kept building more boost and couldn't get enough fuel in it. I saw a peak of 28 psi, so your turbo can do the same no problem. hehehe I guess that gives me an excuse for some ported heads!!:D

Does the ported heads and intake lower boost while increasing CFM? So while you are at 26PSI would that be closer to 24PSI with everything ported? Or am I of the ranch here?

Al "Tin Man" Tylkoski had run 30"ish" (over 30) to push his stock motor:eek: into the 10`s with a TA-49.
It is all up to you, and your tuning. Was the turbo still working efficently... who knows! :)

Adjustable wastegate rod??

You should be able to get more than 23psi so check to see if you manual boost controller is not threaded that high in the bottom fitting. If you move the lower fitting into the controller it will act like the screw being tightened from the top. It could be really far out and the spring inside is not being compressed enough.

Assuming the buildup in your sig i what you are referring to you will be out of breath at 27 psi. You could replace a lot of the fuel with alky to get a little more out of the turbo and run up to 30psi. You should be able to get more out of it. I had a TE44 with an old .63 garrett housing and it went to 27 on the buildup in my sig with no problem. It would have done 30 if i cranked it more. You probably need a high boost actuator with more spring tension. The exhaust pressure may be opening the gate prematurely. I would go for more turbo myself. That 31 trim exhaust is limiting the potential of your heads. A 6776 would throw your car in the 127mph range right away at 25-26 psi on a good tune and make more power everywhere. You have the converter for it so its an easy swap. With a 66 BB and the GTQ wheel you could hit 132mph on a good tune. I estimated my car would have went 123mph at 27 psi with the buildup in my sig and the 44. But it went 126mph with the T72 and a 76 trim at 24.5 psi. Would have done the same with the 6776. The air temp was 80*. 11.5:1 is too lean for pump gas/alky. Id shoot for 11.0-11.1:1. If on 110 octane and alky you could go 11.5:1 and run the timing up a little but its right on the edge that way.

With good heads and everything lined up id estimate that it would take at least 5 psi more to get the same performance with boost pressure in the mid 20's vs. 30+psi untouched. The exhaust pressure is the real problem though causing the biggest decrease in mph when taking the 49 over 120mph.

Here is my delimea.Go with small turbo 49. Was great. Drove a stock block 67 turbo. WOW.Which is easiser on parts, High boost or biger turbo.
Injecters accounted for. And who biuilds, all parts needed for re-doing. A good hih mileage motor. WHich is cost effective. Bying ablock already built. Or doing close to what you found. Thanks for any help.Need a garage for 2 days. I'm in NY. Aera.
