When I first installed a ductile roller cam many years ago with a shim kit, it was such a PIA and for the next 300 or so, all were installed with a late-model steel, spring loaded roller button. So far, no spring or cam failures due to this method.
To be able to use the 3 bolt retainer system, first the cam must be a billet one, and the nose of the cam must be machined to fit.
The timing gear uses a key to position it, and a spacer, gear and bolt are needed to complete the assembly.
