What's normal or typical of metal in an oil filter when you cut one open? I've cut the last 2 open and found some small traces of metal. Tiny, tiny specs of shiny metal. Barely enough to stick to a small magnet on a pocket screwdriver magnet, but some none the less.I've had to drag the magnet through the pleats to find it and what's left floating in the oil in the bottom of the can. I've got 2 opinions on this, one from a diesel engine rebuilder who states that this is normal on a forced induction engine and not to give it a second thought and a N/A engine builder who says none is what I should be seeing.

Thanks.

How many miles on this engine? Typically, you dont want any metal at all but on Fresh build sometimes assembly lube etc can look like metal flakes to the eye. Stuff does have to break in but I would be having the oil sample tested & see what they say.
