Methanol source Detroit MI?

Hi,

I live in Clinton Twp. MI. which is about 30 minutes north of Detroit. I'm very interested and getting a razor alky kit, problem is I can't find methanol at a resonable price. I have call oil distributors and local speed shops (Detroit Speed) and they want $40.00-$45.00 for a 5 gallon pail ($8-9 a gallon).

I understand the cost of oil and chemicals have gone up like everything else these days but, compared to the post that is listed for methonal sources seems like most of you in other parts of the country can get alot better deal ($2-4 a gallon). Unless that post is older and $8-9 a gallon is that going rate today?

I bought a 30 gallon drum from Angelucci.
Paid $170-180 ish. Was still around $6 a gallon. I will take this anyday as opposed to $10-12 for denatured alky.

Milan Dragway had the best deal at right around $3.

I thought of Milan, just wasn't looking to drive that far. Can you give me any contact info for Angelucci? I'd buy a 30 gallon drum to get a better price.

I found a performance shop that handles meth. in the notheren Detroit area.

As of Jan. 2008 it is $4.00 a gallon. Have to bring your own container (gas can) to fill.

Make sure the container you use never has had gasoline in it. Also make sure that the shop supplying the methanol has a dedicated pump for the alcohol. Meaning they dont pull the pump out of the race gas drums and then put it into the meth drum. If you contaminate the alcohol with fuel, you'll kill the pump. Same with oil.. No petroleum can go through the alky pump.

Good info Razor-I was going to fill my new kit today-$35 for 5 gal of M1 put it in an old gas can.Will go back today with a new can and get 5 more gal.What can I do with the stuff in the old can-can i mix it with my 93octane like their doing with E-85?

If by chance, petrolium does get into the pump system, can you repair it? Maybe a new impeller setup?

Kind of curious if it were ever to happen to myself or anyone else.

Sometimes yes.. sometimes no. Pumps are diaphram pumps, the diaphram if it shrinks will cuase the pump to leak.. it it shrinks enough.. then a new pump is needed.

Somethings sometimes should not be repaired. This applies to everything on the car.
