Hi,

I am a frequent reader of the Transmission Talk section and am constantly waffling back and forth as to what to do with my tranny. The situation is:

I want to eventually run low 12s maybe an occassional 11. The car will se maybe 20 passes a year at the track, everything else will be around town or stoplight to stoplight.

I read Bruce's Strengthen the 2004R post and after figuring up everything it would take it got quite expensive. It almost seems like the only thing good from the factory with these trannies is the casing. Surely it doesn't take hardened this and billet that to make these trannies shift hard and live.

Can someone give me a concise descprition of parts that would make for a good rebuild. What about converters? Plan on using a 60 or maybe 61 turbo

TIA
Jonathan

trans

10 vane pump, hardened stator, billet drum, red clutches, wide band&anchor, proper calibration on v/body. I have a stk factory trans w/Art Carr shift kit do low 12's for years. Luck of the draw I guess!

You can check PTS web site or CK Performance site and get exact $'s.
Stator=$39
Shift Kit= $75 and up
10 vane pump=$55(kit)-over$300 for PTS "blueprinted" built pump.
Red lined band=$40 or so
Rebuild kit w/red clutches and steels=$180

Prices are off top of my head and not exact.

if you give me a call i can give you the low down on what you will need bar all the heresay and bull****.see url below cause it aint safe no more.

hearsay&bullcrap

I assume that was directed at me since no one else had bothered to post at all?:( I said what I know to be fact from my experience. My car ran mid to high 12's with totally stk trans. Ran low 12's with blues and recalibrated v/body and a Trashcrafters convertor. The man I bought my car from ran 12.0 for years with only AC shift kit. The items I listed are what I would put in my own trans if low 12's were my goal and I had to go in my trans.
And I directed him toward you as well as Bruce.
If it wasn't directed at me-no harm no foul.

i think your a bit paranoid.i was just trying to let him know it can be done with minimal cash outlay in the form of a good recalibration kit such as ours.no jabbing intended.

proper calibration on v/body.You can check PTS web site or CK Performance site and get exact $'s.

Not paranoid,just confused!:D

With reason; that's the way I saw it too. Chris promotes a bit hard at times... don't know if it's a right coast thing, or what? At least he answers.

Your willingness to step in and help is appreciated. The listed experts seem to be noticable mostly by their absence. Busy building trannies? (This is a great forum, but I can see how answering repetative questions could become a chore).

forum

Yea,the tranny forum is a little lacking as of late.

I think you are right on with what you are saying ITSAV6. One further thing I would say is add the rollerized low/reverse center support. It's only $40 and gets rid of the plastic selective that GM engineers themselves told Bruce was what they should have done to start with. I didn't respond sooner since I didn't wanna make it seem like piling on, but you have the list down there.
