Mityvac pump/bleed kit question

General question because it is unclear on the packaging. Can you measure general engine vacuum with these or are they just for applying vacuum to things like EGR valves? I don't see why not, but I just wanted to be sure.

I've done it before but you need an earlier version. The newer ones are kinda weird. No exhaust port to check whether it will hold pressure.

I ended up buying one since I needed it for brake bleeding anyway. It is a model from Feb 2009. It worked fine measuring manifold vacuum on the engine, so that's good.
