I've been a member for a long time, I don't post often but I've learned a lot from the gurus and try to pitch in to help out whenever I can. However, I've often seen someone ask a "dumb question" and usually get one of these responses: 1) completely ignored, or 2) "this dead horse has been beaten before, search the forum" (when it would have been easier to just answer the question) or 3) bad advice from another newbie that is at least trying to help. or worse of all 4) completely embarrassed and made to feel like a complete idiot for asking something that everyone should already know.

How about a heading "most frequently asked questions"? Here are a few that I think would be a good start.
1) Why is my A/C blowing out of the defrosters.?
2) How do I set the timing (cam sensor)?
3) Are Ebay headers any good?
4) What is that little orange wire on the battery positive cable)
5) What should my fuel pressure be?
6) Why is my alternator not charging my battery?
7) What is the widest wheels that will fit on the back of a TR?
8) How do I adjust my windows for wind noise?
9) How do I speed up my windows?
10) What spark plugs (and gap) is best?

Of course these are just a few of the questions that I've seen asked over and over again but I'm sure if asked members will come up with several dozen. Just a suggestion, I'd like to hear what other casual members think.

ur thinking too hard ..lol what would be the fun in that....better to live and learn by asking:cool:, posting and told how to get it:D its less boring and good way to notice a member.
jus my view.

You could call the forum Turbo Regal 101 and have a test at the end. Pass the test and you are allowed to post...LOL.
I actually think this would be a good idea to have a forum for FAQ

And that's why there's a sticky in the suspension section about mods.:D I got tired of looking up the info to post for others. Search function on the new board is soooo much better now but it still helps to have a sticky to refer to.;)

Don't forget my favorite "what do you think it will run?". As if there are not 1000's of variables that come into play when drag racing. Some people go 10's with stock parts and some people go 10's with 10's of thousands of dollars. If you want to brag to your buddies about how fast your car is take it to the track and prove it.
Every car is different, every driver is different. Impossible to tell.

I think this is a great idea! As a newb, i try to search as much as i can before asking. However, it can be difficult to figure out what search terms work best. Even if you do get lucky and hit the right search terms, there's a lot of threads that say "do a search!!!". Imagine never having owned one of these things and trying to find where the chip is! I did a search for "where is the chip?" and i got about 8 bazillion results back and no answers.

I understand that the board is a resource, and I'm grateful to have it ( especially for free). If implemented, i would say limit it to factual answers and not opinion-based ones. "how to reset the stock ecm" - check. "Hydroboost or vacuum?" bad idea!!!!

It's a good idea. When I get some time I'll start working on it. You guy's keep posting questions here and I will put them in a new FAQ sticky.

Keep in mind a Google search is a wonderful thing. ;)

The search function can be a bit of a catch. 22 but as for people on the forum. I've only come across a handful of a$$holes. Pretty good at helping the mechanically handicapped. Before i ask a stupid question i always let people know im stupid. So type slow and clearly. If I had a 1/4 of the knowledge most guys had on here my car would be running 10's by now...haha...but seriously this site rocks.

One of the problems (I find) with the google search is since the change to xenfro some of the articles did not populate. If I did a search on let's say Type II ignition switch (which I just did) it will bring up the link but when you click it it would just take me to the general tech section and not the post.

Aaa, I see. For some reason we lost the links when the board was upgraded. :(

Dont forget "What weight oil do I run", "Is synthetic good to use" and the almight "All things ZDDP related to oil questions"

You forgot.....

"How many GN's came with twin turbos/V8's in them from the factory?"

And let's not forget...."Should I add a blow off vavle?"

I'm glad so many think the FAQ would be a good thread, I think many of us that have owned TR for so many years forget that what now seems like a "dumb question" we were asking (or too embarrassed to ask) way back when we were newbs. Few things make me smile more that having someone about 5 years younger than my car walk up and say "man is that a real Grand National? "I've always wanted one". Even though our cars keep getting older, everyday someone buys his or her first TR. I can't think of any other vehicle that was built for short a short period of time that has such a following, the knowledge of how to just maintain and keep them on the road is vital to their continued allure.

i think we should encourage guys new to these cars and young guys like myself. to do as much reasearch on these cars before purchasing. because like your quote says is that real GN. Thats what i thought I bought. Turned out it was just a plain ole' turbo regal. Painted and decaled. So some of these "dumb" questions could save some "serious" cash

Unless you bought your car as an "investment", don't be overly concerned that your car is not a "real GN". You got a great car and few people will even know the difference. If you purchased ANY car in today's market as "an investment", it was probably not your best bet to begin with. The good news is if the market on collector cars ever does rebound, even a GN clone will probable be worth what you paid for it in this depressed market. Drive your car, enjoy it, learn as much as you can about TRs, and don't worry about what others think or say about your "GN". Notice in my signature I have a converted 85, purest hate it, I love it. Did the work myself and wouldn't trade the experience for anything.
