Contemplating which ones to use. For anyone running Moogs, can you please list which ones you're using and measure from the ground to the fender lip? Also, tell me how you like them. CC627, CC651, 5606, 5660, etc...... So many choices!

Carl, I have but it's all Monte stuff. TR's are a bit lighter in the front and have different handling characteristics I would think. Plus, pics of the stance would be sweet.

I replaced my worn out springs in my 86 t type with moog 5606. It raised the front of my car tremendously and it looks so much better now. (It use to look like I had lowering springs.)

Here is a web link that has a few pictures of my car. You can see how it sits in the first picture (BTW, my car is the gray one)

Yea...I don`t like, its to high for me. good info

Please tell me that white car run 10`s and better. why ruin suck a nice car.

Well, one of the white cars runs tens.:) The one that you are reffering to however does not. The picture is quite decieving. When the car was purchased it had a blown head gasket, hail damage over the entire vehicle, large rust holes in the floorboard, and a $200 macco paint job. It use to be an awsome metallic blue in color. I believe that it was a theft recovery too. This vehicle is a 90 footer (or, it looks good from 90 feet away).

I figured that my car would sit a little too high for some of you, but to each his own I guess. I just do not care much for the lowered look, or the "raked" look. Having it sit up a bit higher in the front also gives me piece of mind that I am not going to bottom out an $800 intercooler ;)

The front does look a bit higher than what I was expecting however you might have deleted some engine bay stuff too like AC, heater box, etc.... Is it all there? Are you running a 26" tall tire? Thanks for the pics. How tall is it from the ground to the arch in the fender lip?

All of the engine accessories are still there. In the picture the vehicle has 205-75-15 tires on it so they are 27.2 inches tall I believe. I just installed the springs before taking the pictures so I expect that the vehicle will settle a bit in the future. The Grand National in the photos has the same springs but has had time to settle and sits about an inch or so lower.

the 90 footer----I'm 1,000 miles away and it still looks like Sh!t---- J/K

I like your Grey color while it on the trailer, nice sparkle to it....

I have a Dark Met Blue T..

:D

OK, its a 1000 miler:D

Thanks for the compliment! Do you have any pics of your T? I really like the dark metallic blue.

I have the CC651's on the back. Very good spring. Ride height did not change from stock.

I have the 5660's on the front, the ride height again did not change from stock. (front on my car is about 27" from ground to the highest part of the fender lip)

Springs really are a bit of a trial and error item on these cars. Once you find a rate you like, if its too tall, take them to a machine shop and have them lop a coil off. Lopping the coil will make the spring a bit stiffer, but unless your initial choice was already tooth rattling, you probably won't notice.

I have had the 5660's in for 2 years and I felt they were just a little too firm. Last week I switched over to the 5658's. I noticed the slight loss in roll stiffness and the ride is slightly softer. My calculations tell me they will be about .5" lower than the 5660's but they have not settled yet. Right now they are a teensy bit lower than the 5660's.

The 5658 is still a touch stiffer than most of the springs sold as upgrade springs like Eibach and what not. The 5658's are 25% stiffer than stock while the 5660's are 50% stiffer.

In the rear I have the CC561 I believe which makes them a better match to the 5658 than to a 5660 from my experience.

Thanks for the reply. Could you please measure from the ground to the top of the fender lip? Please? :D

I'm not too concerned about roll stiffness as I have a 36mm hollow front and ATR rear. What I do not want is the typical GM caddy ride and feel like a boat going down the freeway. I want to be able to take a few turns every now and then. After I finalize this spring thing, I'll play around with swaybar sizes. The ATR rear is kinda big but I'll try it for a while.

With the 5660's in place the stock front and rear bars were perfect. I also did the entire suspension in new rubber bushings and replace all ball joints. I also use Bilsteins. I use GNX wheels with Michelin Pilots. The car really turns well, I take off ramps way faster than most people even people in "sports" cars.

I am still assessing the difference with the 5658's. I have the 36 mm bar sitting in the garage but with the 5660's it would have caused understeer.

The fender lips are at a hair under 26" at the front.

I have Moog 5401 springs in the rear, unfortunatly I dont have any measurements ,I had the car up on standes for the ATR exhaust and decide the springs have been on the shelf for over a yr ,,so it was time....
also did the Bilstiens ,,the Lakewood shocks on there were like jello, didnt even return after compressing them...

5401 's are supposed to lower the rear 1.5 in

again this is last yrs research...;)

BJM, 26"ish is what I'm looking for. I ordered CC627's fo the rear. So are the 5658's noticable stiffer than stock?

I went to the 5660's first and they were a bit of a shock going from stock. I can't imagine the ride quality for guys using the 5664s though. The 5658 should feel quite a bit firmer than stock since I find its only a bit milder feeling than with the 5660s. The biggest difference I have noticed is in roll stiffness.

One thing that never gets mentioned is damping. The appropriate damping level goes up as you stiffen springs. The suspension stroke shortens with a stiffer spring and the valving in the shock has to be more aggressive to keep up. Of course most people buy shocks according to application meaning they tell the parts guy they have a Regal, they do not order shocks according to a damping value (imagine the parts guy's expression if you said you wanted X lb/in/s damping). Therefore most shocks are set for the factory stiffness. This is another reason not to over do the spring thing. Harshness does not equal handling although its hard to convince some people of this.

I use the Bilsteins and they seemed more dominant with the stock springs than when I went to the 5660s. I am happy with the 5658s now. I can tell they are starting to drop down a little as well. I will measure them in a few weeks.
