I am in the middle of a project and I would like some opinions on replacing or repairing an exsisting moonroof from anyone who has had to do this chore. The situation being a stuck open glass panel which forced me to remove the unit, parts availibility may be an issue, but I have'nt finished checking yet. I would like to know if anyone out there has replaced an old unit with a new one, but more importantly, did the exsisting opening lend itself to a new glass or was modification necessary? I am going to get an opinion from the local shop, but I am always wary of persons whose main task is to sell things.(ex-salesperson talking) The specifics are powered moonroof(glass retracts back under roof) and it is out of a 1985 T-Type. Your experience does not even have to be Buick necessarily, just a similar situation. I need to get this fixed before the car goes back on the street, it's waaaaaaaay too wet here in the northeast to be driving with a huge hole above your head. Thanks for listening and your time.

where at in the north east?

I have a couple moon roofs

1 is for parts and I have a complete assembly

not sure what would be making it stick open without more details

also there is a factory moon roof and then theres an asc moon roof which was a dealer installed roof not a factory installed one

the factory one the seal goes back with the glass and the asc one the seal is attached to the roof

Reds Hot Air,
I am located in central Pennsylvania, the closest landmarks being Three Mile Island{but not too close},and hershey- home of the chocolate. Thanks for the information, but I don't think it is going to do me much good, for my problem child isn't like either one you described. My particular one is a Sky- Top unit and I don't know if it was in there from day one or not. I do know why it stuck open, it got bound up in the plastic tube that the cable retracts into and in the process broke several plastic parts(gear cover, metal feed tube collar, and three small sliders that the glass rides on. If anyone out there knows of such animals I would be grateful if they would be willing to part with them.($)
