Guys, i posted before that my heater was permanently on defrost and that I was having problem with my vacuum related system on the heater controls. I was given the color code of all the vac hoses and testeed them all along with the individual diaphragms. I have a few questions for you guys.

Everything tested out fine as far as the individual acuators, except for the defroster. I was using a mity vac, which was hooked directly to the defrost solenoid, and had to pump like MAD to get that badboy to open, and after it starts to open it holds vac. The 85 regal parts car I have did the same thing, so im thinking this is normal.

The system still only holds vac. when in the defrost position (Or its possible my mity vac doesnt remove enough volume of air fast enough to create a good vac. signal.) The vac drops in any position besides defrost.

Is my defrost solenoid bad? I havent ruled out the vac. switch but I also tried the one out of my parts car and had the exact same results.

Thanks guys, im almost there!

Evan

BTW, there is NO check valve in line and it appears that the vac ball has been removed. I took the vac. ball off my 85 parts car, and will install it with a check valve.

There is a vacuum manifold on the rear of the control panel. This is a wear item and is available at most parts stores or GM. Most people notice this is going bad by being able to hear the hiss when you change modes. And just like yours it normally gets quiet after the change is made. It is easy to swap out and the cost isn't too big either.

Yeah that sounds like my problem. I assume the vacuum manifold is the part where all the vac. lines plug in. Mine does hiss, and seem to be leaking. Thanks for the help, ill post when i get this issue resolved.

PS is it normally difficult to get the defroster vac solenoid to hold vac, seems i have to pump like mad, then all the sudden it holds vac... wierd.
