more hp from playing with tps

Ive seen a few times that people grind parts or the tb and tps and come up with getting more voltage and hp from do so. Does any one know what they do and how , i would like to try to get the most out of this car.

The only reason to grind on the TPS sensor is if for some reason you cannot get the 0.42v - 0.46v at idle and more than 4.6v at WOT blade position. A very small file or dremmel tool will open up the slot in the TPS for more adjustment.

The only reasons I can think of that the car would pickup hp from a change in the TPS voltage would be:

1) the idle voltage was too high or low and causing the fuel map to be used for idle...might cause an off-idle bog or bad idle

2) the WOT tps voltage is less than 80% of 4.6v -- since most programming in our chips is done at 80% of max TPS voltage. So if your TPS voltage is only 3v at WOT, then your car would go a little faster by adjusting it to read closer to 4.5-4.6v.

As far as how to do it, its pretty simple. Adjust your TPS (as per gnttype.org if this is new to you). You will soon figure out where the TPS needs/wants to be to get a reading >4.5 volts. If you cannot get it there than grind off whatever in the way. It takes some common sense but its pretty much as easy as that. Grind in small increments.

Iam getting .42 at idle and 4.66 at wot but in the gm tec mag its was at that and they tryed to get 4.76 and did so , they sayed it would pick up some power . Maybe i dont need to do so then .

this really isn't necessary as the power enrichment mode in most chips are actually 75% of full throttle which is around 4.0 so as long as your tps is greater than 4 you are fine as far as WOT goes...at idle it should be between .40 and .46 but i leave mine at .42

GM High Tech Performance is too busy trying to keep their project cars from blowing up to sweat the details like whether or not bumping the TPS voltage .2 volts really works. Hehe. Sorry I just couldn't resist. Love the mag.

Get real close to .4 at idle, and over 3.9 at WOT and go on to something else.

You do want to make sure the butterfly is fully opening. While idle was fine on mine, it took a fair amount of grinding to get the butterfly to open fully.

If you change the butterfly's full open point remember to check the TV cable adjustment when your done. Might take a couple of careful measurements to see where the new linkage location is compared to that old, being picky to do that but if you know all the measurements before hand, and where you are afterward to can 2x check to make sure things are ok, if you have to change much.

Bruce is right, you'd get alot more out of it making sure the throttle plate goes ALL THE WAY open at WOT, that is, from depressing the go pedal from inside the car, not just from under the hood....
