well, after discovering my turbo was SHOT, i replaced it with a reman. went to start the car today, but i dont hear my fuel pump coming on, nor am i getting anything out of the purge valve on top of the engine. upon looking at some of the relays in the engine compartment, i noticed i have 2 plugs/relays that look to have been hot very recently. they are located on the passenger side fender near the hood shock. i'm not sure what these are for, does anyone know? does anyone have some good ones to replace these? i also have a picture below of a bundle of wires, toggle switch, and what appears to be an antenna plug that are in the same general area, with the main wires running down towards the bottom of the firewall under the a/c box area. sorry for the quality of the pics, i have a hard time getting my camera to focus. in the next couple days i am going to check my fuses, and if no luck there i guess i will hotwire the fuel pump to see if it works. i noticed i do have a couple loose plugs/connections in the engine compartment, i will try to get pictures of them to see if anyone knows what they are for. its probably worth noting, the car did run before placing the turbo, but ran like crap, lol! something also killed the battery that was in it, either something drained it or i had a short (possibly the burnt plugs/relays??) hopefully i can get some help, i am already getting irritated with things and the idea of a V8 has crossed my mind several times already, but i dont want to be like every other regal around here :frown: thanks for your time in advance!

pics of the weird wires/toggle switch/crap i have no idea whats for

One of those relays by the MAP sensor is for the fuel pump, the other i believe is the A/C relay.

Replace it and see if it helps. As for the toggle I think maybe a kill switch of some kind, maybe to the relay or ECM> guessing.

You might want to get a new connector or clean that one up.

there is info on gnttype- that shows where all the sensors are- but I can't get on there... and find the link... read thru the hot air " sticky" as well i think the info is on there- it almost looks like you have a aftermarket elec antenna...

any idea which one is for the fuel pump? the one closet to the firewall is the worst looking one. i'm sure i can get the relay at a parts store, but what about the connect/plug?

i looked through there but didnt see the info i need, maybe i overlooked it, theres a lot of stuff on there! lol... i was thinking the elec antenna thing also

Ok- looking at your second picture... from left to right-

The left (one with the hose attached) is the MAP sensor, next is Air Cond. Compressor Relay, Fuel Pump Relay, and the ESC- Electronic Spark Control Module (the square looking one) on the right... i believe your antenna is a Harada semi-automatic antenna (I had one similiar in my 1956 panel)- the switch allows you to raise and lower at any point... alot of GN's come with fully auto antenna

awesome! thanks for the info! guess i should check into getting a new fuel pump relay, any idea on where/how i can get a plug? i dont think this one is going to be able to be cleaned :frown: think i will try to yank all that antenna crap out

Looking for this

HOT AIR TURBO/SFI

Josh, I would just clean yours up a bit, small wire brush> You could use those G.U.M brushes for your gums with a little be of cleaner, then blown it out.

i dont know yet. i probably wont get a chance to work on it until sometime next week. its one of 3 ongoing projects, and right now i cant afford the parts for it. gotta wait til payday

alright so new relays didnt fix the problem. anyone have a parts car around that you're willing to sell me the fuel pump relay plug w/pigtails? mine looks toast :frown:

If your not looking for the OEM look, You can always just pick up a pack of shielded connectors from the auto parts store and just spice the wires from the burnt plug and connect them to the relay individualy....I think that would work.

i'm sure pretty much every GM car and truck from that era with an in tank fuel pump will have ar elay and plug that will go right in.
but there has to be a reason the relay and wiring got hot- maybe the fuel pump decided to die and is creating a dead short, which will cause the wiring to get hot.
or it could be a bad ground at the tank, which will have the same effect. does the gas gauge work?

when the car was running before i replaced the turbo, the gas gauge did not seem to work. i think i may try hot wiring the fuel pump to see if it works??
