Can i do this somehow, as my interior all in the car is MINT! and dont want to put holes in the dash if i dont have to. Can i get something to wrap it around the steering wheel or something? have any of you guys done this or no of anyone who has?

thanks

jojo

You can make a bracket to slip behind the dash section that surrounds the speedometer, etc. I know this isn't clear, but I think Scott Simpson has a description of this in the tech pages of the gnttype stuff.

I have a tach and three gauges mounted without damaging the dash.

If you want, you can email me privately for more information at afwdvm@aol.com

I mounted mine to the column where the tilt steering stalk goes using a threaded rod and spacers. Works perfect and not impede anything including tilt feature. Nothing new, just giving options.

Hey Mitch, do you have any pics? im trying to picture that set up in my mind, and the kind of bracket you are using for that.

thanks,

jojo

I took off the pad going around the instrument cluster, drilled holes in the side of the dash, installed a home made bracket that went towards the front of the car, and made a U turn and came back towards the center of the car. I put the dash pad back on, mounted the tach and its secured with no holes in the dash. Best thing is that its right beside the scanmaster, BstC and alky setup, so I can watch all of them at the same time.

That sounds a lot like what I have posted on gnttype. The original webpage was updated a few months ago, see http://www.gnttype.org/techarea/images/panel.jpg and I have recently added a picture with my new extention for the Innovative boost controller, EGT meter and wide band display unit, see http://www.gnttype.org/techarea/images/Panelextension.jpg

Hope this helps someone.

I made the same type of bracket and had it extend down to the top of the radio pod. I didn't want to block the vents so I made the bracket a right angle with 1/12" x 1/4" aluminum and had it extend across the top of the radio pod. I mounted guages on the horizontal piece using the cups you can get to mount the gauges externally. I used velcro to secure the horizontal piece to the radio pod, although it is attached to the vertical piece that has a flange that fits behind the pod that goes around all of the instrumentation.

I don't have any pics, but just remove the tilt lever from the column, get some allthread (think it is 1/4-28) and screw it in where the lever came out. use the clamp that came with the tach and slip it over the allthread. Works perfect and still tilt the column.
