Interesting question. If I behave I can get my mostly stock GN to give me about 22ish give or take, but that's keeping under 60mph . Not too much excitement in that. "normal driving" with a romp here and there and a blast or two it probably gets around 15mpg mixed. My GS on the other hand is lucky to ever get into the double digits. It seems to pass everything but a gas station. again, we are talking "normal driving", not really trying to waste or save . On the other hand, I do some long hauls in my 2000 Silverado with a small 4.8 and I tow frequently with it and on Sunday ,with a fully loaded bed and a heavy utility trailer I got exactly 16.3. for a 350 mile trip. Not too shabby really. With an Empty bed and taking it easy it tickles 20 MPG. Cruise control and no traffic is required for the best mileage. I recently towed home an 05 trailblazer with the Silverado not too long ago and that was a heavy load, the HD trailer with it together weighed quite a bit more than the Silverado and it still gave me about 12-13 mpg. Would love to have big block power to tow, but its great to be able to laugh when I hear my buddies moan and complain when their rigs get under 10 mpg towing just 2 sleds and I get twice the mileage with the same load! The 4.8 is no stump puller, but it gets the job done.
