Ms Windows Xp Guru"s ???

Past week my laptop has been having issues running different non MS programs.
i tried reinstsall of the programs again which did not fix the them.

I decided that maybe it is time to try SYSTEM RESTORE to 1 month back
The SYStem Restore to an earlier date did not work dam MSOFT! gave me message saying your system has not been restored & that was it.

my question to the guru's is

1) Could I use the OS disk & lay over the OS only?

Or

2) Would I have to wipe out everything & install OS fresh & then all my external programs

(yes I know I have to backup or offload all personal stuff to an external disk in order to bring back later)

Did you boot into safe mode and try a system restore from there? Sometimes it's much better when nothing else is loaded.

Can you also name the programs that you are trying to run as well? That will help too...

You can boot from the CD and do a repair instead of a new install from the menu. It will only affect the OS.

I was trying to use EBAYs Turbo lister.

I actualy found that it was a memory leak. I was able to fix with one of those free net programs.
