Theres very little money in journalism, and it's a shrinking market.
As far as job security and $ potential goes, ad agencies are where it's at. It's tough work but if she can hack it she'll be set.
If she doesn't have an online portfolio like carbonmade yet, have her create one to showcase her work, and start contacting agencies.

She currently lives/works in Atlanta. I think she just signed a lease for another year too. But she could probably relocate if necessary. My brother and his wife live there too so that's a plus.
