While recording the pressure gage readings in each gear I noticed that while in 2nd gear the pressure was fluctuating quite a bit. It would hold steady for a few seconds and then jump 100 psi or so. It was more than just the needle fluttering a few lbs. This was doing it with TV cable at full off position. In all other gears the needle fluctuated a few lbs back/forth but not like it was in
2nd gear. Does this indicate an issue with a valve not relieving properly or something sticking?

Also, by installing a different shift kit will this increase or change my pressure readings?

Thanks, paul

What spring is in the pump on the slide? Stock is a double. I had one get weak after I left it extended on the bench a while. When trans went back togther the pump pressures were wierd. I replaced it with a hi po spring on Lonnies advise and problem solved. Not saying this is your issue but figured I'd toss it out there.

2nd gear is the servo, maybe pull it and check those seals again.

Ok thanks. Do you have answer on whether the shift kit changes the pressure levels?

paul

Pressure is controled by combination of boost valves and springs in the pump. Some kits supply those parts some don't,it would depend on the kit. And you may already have the same size boost valves/springs in there already.

The reson why I ask is because I am going to remove the valve body (from under the car) to fix the governor and verify the valves springs and what not to see if I need to make any changes with those parts. I currently have an older Art Carr kit in there with some other changes.

I did not like the Art Carr kit,but I don't know if it was a virgin valvebody I had to begin with. I like the CK kit. His comes with a few options.
