Need A.C. Recharge Help

I had to change the leaking seals on my compressor. After re-connecting the hoses I charged the system with 2 cans of oil and 2-3 cans of R12, I forget how many, anyway my compressor cycles on and off but it never really gets too cold. Is there some procedure I must go through to get the air out of the system? Is there moisture in the air within the system freezing it up?
Its really hot here and a black car doesn't help.

Ummm, yes. You need to vacuum the system down to 30 inHg, before filling. Find a friend with a vacuum pump, or take it in. That will remove the moisture and air from the system.
