First of all I just joined and the GN chassis is somewhat new to me I am from the subaru world where everything can be done with a lap top ( much easier ) and am somewhat confused about this extender chip thing ...
here is the deal a friend of mine brought me his 87 buick GN orig 48000 on the clock and original owner it wasnt running to well .it was nosing off up top and the scan master showed it pulling timing all over the place no matter what I did to boost levels and fuel presure .
original set up was
Jay carter chip
36lb injectors
3 inch down pipe
precision TA 49
short ram intake with K&N filter
art car trans kit
street brawler 12" lockup converter 2800 3000
2.5 exhaust
adjustable FPR
the little box to adjust tps with small led's
scanmaster2
FP gauge on hood
oil pres
boost
volts
trans temp
economy gauge ( useless )
so while surfing the net I found GN1 performance and called archie told him the set up and what it was doing he gave me his recomendations
bigger intercooler
his extender chip
60lb injectors
so I did the install of all this stuff set fuel pressure to the recomended 37 40 psi at idle checked that everything was good thru scanmaster and took it out . it seems to have better throttle response and off boost power but if you just whack it scanmaster shows 1.5 to 9.5 or higher of timing retard and you can hear pinging BAD so I lowered boost to 10 psi form 15 psi ( 15 is what was recomended to start off at and go higher from there ) toped off the tank with fresh sunoco 93 and still the same thing but not as bad but still there . now if you feed it throttle slowly and progressively its fine and seems pretty fast but who wants to do that all the time I have been told the parameters of the chip can be changed via the scanmaster through a wire that came with the chip that would have to be spliced into the ECU harness is this so ? any and all advice will be appreciated ...
there are no vacuum leaks that I can detect . it idles fine , no smoke out exhaust, at full throttle it shows O2 at 800 to 820 ( wanted to start high and work it lower ) The chip I was sent was marked 48psi / 104 octane but I was told by GN1 performance that it would be fine
I think this is the problem as it seems as the timing curve is too aggresive or transional fuel is messed up . I hate not being able to log this car any insite ???
