I am going in on a Corvette purchase with a friend. I need to find a site similar to gnttype.org that can answer all my questions.

Anyone know of a good site?

yeah, I saw that site earlier. More of a msg board than an informational site like I need.

I have some very basic questions about engine differences, available parts, etc.

The same questions that if asked here would get the response "go to gnttype.org" rather than turbobuicks, turbo6power...etc.

FWIW & IMHO:
I don't think that you are going to find a site to your liking.
It seems to me that all, or most of the vette sites are all forums, or forum orientated.
www.z06vette.com
www.digitalcorvettes.com
and for some nos-specific sites/forums that have some vette info on them:
www.musclecarclub.com
which has some interesting info in non-forum form & reading

www.highspeeddriving.com
which has a pretty dedicated vette forum section

You are already on a car forum....tons of gearheads here so what is it you want to know.

Well..... it is looking like an 82 with the L-82. Not particularly fast but cool looking.

Assuming we get one with the stock 350 what are good mods that are not expensive?

I will probablly work on the suspension a bit. I know there is a fiberglass rear spring that is supposed to be good.

Also need to know what to look for and what to avoid.

That kind of stuff.

Never mind I just saw your looking at a old model. I only have expertise with current models.

One piece of advice though, not a good idea to go in together
on a vehicle purchase. Why in the world would you do that?

Must be a high end example if you have to split the cost. Is it Bloomington certified?

http://www.netcorvettes.com/

This page lists the top 100 Corvette sites. If you can't find one there, then it ain't out there.

No offense, but I'm with GNX Guy. You're asking for trouble. What happens when one of you wants the car and the other does too? What happens when one of you puts more miles on it, but only gets it for 3 days, and not 4? What happens when your buddy doesn't use it for a week because he is on vacation, and wants to take it even though it is your turn? What happens when one of you scratches/bangs it up and lowers the value and you guys finally sell it? Does the other get a bigger cut? What happens when one wants out, the other doesn't? One buys the other out? How do you come up with a fair price. Trouble, trouble, trouble. If you are still planning on it, at least think first. Good Luck.

I know you said you looked on the corvetteforum--but I AM SURE the info you want can be found in the c3 section of that forum--just koin and ask away--those guys are very knowledgeable.

FWIW & IMHO:
Something that I should have added in my response, but didn't:
There are some things that can be shared in life, and there are some things that can't. Wives, girlfriends, and cars are not in the "share" catagory. However, mistresses generally are.

thanks for the links and such. I think I have what I need to know.

Not to worry...... I am only in the deal to help him get the car. After that he will be back in the state and the car is 101% his.

After all..... no point in having a slow car around the house ;-)

I thought 82s were crossfire injection,if this one is stay away unless its perfect and you can pick it up for under $5k.

Vettes with the crossfire injection are crap IMO

The main performance mod you could do would be pulling the crossfire injection off and putting on a carb. Then the normal stuff ie headers, exhaust, cam, etc.

Last year for a factory L82 in a Corvette was 1980 and that was optional resulting in a low percentage of the total production run. Maybe someone put the L82 in the 82 model?? 82's had the cross fire injection like the 84's.

I'd have to agree that I wouldn't go in on a car with anyone other than my father. Too many potential problems! Good luck.

What is wrong with the crossfire engine? I will tell him to avoid that if the consensus is they are crap.
