Ok I just put wires and plugs on the car and wanted to verify that my wires are on the right spots at the coil pack. But my coil pack does not have any numbers on it. Can someone please tell me the numbers for the towers? Also can someone verify the cylinder numbering on the engine? Just want to double check that everything is right. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Standing at the front of the car facing the engine, going from left to right, front-to-back: the pack is wired 1 5 3 4 2 6. The cylinders are 1 3 5 on the driver's side and 2 4 6 on the passenger side.

Anyone know the order of the old style coil pack? My friend said it's not like the regular coilpack, but all in one line. Thanks.

Sorry, he has a 85 t-type, thanks again.

Thanks for the picture, but that's the other style coil. His coil has all the towers in a straight row, without numbers on it. I've never seen this type before,so that's why I would appreciate any help. Thanks again.

yea um.. thats a type II ignition.. off a series 3800 motor... search for 'type II ignition' or something like that.

Ok, I guess I'm not explaining myself clearly, I know what a type II is, but it's not that style. There are six towers ALL in a STRAIGHT row like this O O O O O O . There are NO numbers. Anyone seen this before?? Thanks.

Nope, not on one of THESE cars! Do you know if that inline coil is SIX separate coils, or THREE? (or?) I doubt it would even work if it's not a 3-coil unit! If it is a 3-coil, you'll just have to find out which 2 plug towers are common to each coil, make sure you have the 4-1, 5-2 and 6-3 wires paired to the common coil towers...THEN, you'll still have 6 possible wiring combinations, but it shouldn't take more than 10 minutes to find the right combo!

Yes, they have six separate coils. I've never seen this before, so I don't know how the firing order works. Thanks for your help.

If it isn't a Type II and it isn't the one-piece with 3 towers on one side and 3 on the other....then he's got the completely wrong coil pack and module on there...

Btw, the picture that BuickGN Boosted posted a link to IS NOT the Type II coil, if that's what you're thinking...The picture showed the stock 84/5 coilpack and module with a aftermarket coverplate on it...

Get the right coil pack and module for the 84/5(really expensive$$$!!!!) or get the 86/7 coil pack and module with the adapter harness and be done with it...There wasn't any other type of coil packs on these cars except for what I've listed...the adapter harness can be brought from Casper's Electronics along with the coil pack and module...Casper's are the guys that make the adapters so the other vendors just go to them to get it...You can also do the Type II swap, too, but you still need the adapter harness to do it...Also, make sure that the ignition module is bolted down(needs to be grounded) or bolt a ground strap to one of the studs on the bottom to ground it, otherwise the car won't even start(or will run like dogsh*t)...

Hope this helps in someway...

Ok, thanks!!! I don't know where the hell he got that coil from!! I'll tell him to get the conversion and end this headache already:D Thanks alot for everyones help.

Aloha oe!!!
