Need data report for ported stock heads

Does someone have a data report on the before/after of a set of ported stock heads? I need ALL the info like type of flow bench, water level, intake and exhaust flow at each valve lift, valve sizes, etc.
I could also use one for a set of Champions.
I already have a report on GN1's to see what I am looking for.

I would like to add it to my new web page that I am setting up that will contain factual information.

I looked in the archives but didn't see the exact info I was looking for.

I am also looking for "other" info that was tested or that I feel may be good to add. I prefer "data tests/facts" if possible. I am not going to make a huge web page but just thought that I would put some things on there to help others.

That's what I thought and I looked at 7 threads but couldn't find anything. A lot of postings of max flow #'s but nothing giving values at specific lifts. I'll do some more searching when I have some more time..

You will need to sift through all this to weed out the redundancy etc but I found most of these from GNTTYPE.ORG. I had posted my info here (as did others) before the crash so archives on tbuick are gone.

If you need this in a spreadsheet lemme know as I doubt the formating will hold - Shawn

Mine, then the others:
Heads have little portwork as most of the modification was in the bowl area, but even then these are not "worked" heads since more could be done.
For some readings I plugged in identical values even though it may not have been actually tested… the reason for this is that there was no gain for those data points.
Example: the exhaust flow did not gain above 0.400 lift.... the porter had just drawn a line through the rest of the range

Can someone comment on the flow numbers that were done on the heads I just
recieved. I don't know how this is compared to a stock head. When I look at
them there is no comparison to my trick flow heads that I had done on my F--d.

Intake tested @ 25 inches water:

LIFT: FLOW: Same except @ 28" H2O:

Exhaust: As a % of intake:
.200 93 99 82%
.300 129 137 79%
.400 142 151 75%
.500 143 152 73% -- Don't know why
.600 143 152 71% -- these last 3 entries are
.700 143 152 69% -- different %'s

After about .400 lift, on the both the Intake and Exhaust, there doesn't seem
to be much gain in flow.

These are stock 1986 TR heads that had a full port job: intake ports, bowl,
exhaust ports, and 1.77" Intake valves.

Ive included a copy of our ported Iron heads flow numbers
Take note intake flow numbers are similar,but our exh. out
flows theirs.

I just took 2 heads to the shop and had them flowed. One set was a
Champion
"out of the box" and one set we ported and back cut the valves. I know
all
flow benches differ but I was somewhat surprised at the results.

Intake and exhaust were both ported substantially with the original
valves
being used, the intake port is more than adequate for most applications
as it
is fairly efficient out of the box while the exhaust needs improvement I
feel
that a larger intake valve is needed to flow more at this point(probably
not
needed for most) as we made the intake port pretty much as efficient as
possible. I also have flow figures for a set of GN1 heads fully ported
by
Champion which compare almost identical to ours however they were flowed
on a
different bench so it would not be fair to post the results for
comparison
sake.We have a set of our ported heads on a stock block full weight car
that
has been down the track 4 passes and has run a best of 10.53 at 129.8 at
22#
of boost with mild launches, surely it will be a low 10 car at 130 plus.
I
have purchased about 7 sets of these heads and have had the same small
problem(s) with every set, however they dont leak and will run with the
M&A
head stock for stock( I have used them both) and they are priced right.

P.S. this is the same bench that my Stage 2 heads flowed 345 on the int.
and
267 on the exh at 28 " and .700 lift so it does not read "light" in my
opinion.
 
Whoops... the numbers on my heads were taken at Saum's in Wichita Kansas by the "head man" Denny.

Bench should have been a "SuperFlow" or something like that.

I am still :confused: :confused: by this data. What is the trick here? So basically a set of heads with stock valves with a backcut flowed more than a set of CNC Champions? From what we have seen on the flow bench 186/146 was the best with stock valves and backcut. Head people please chime in.

A hand ported set most of the time will out flow the CNC set . You got to remember the cnc set was based off a hand ported set . The cnc has the advantage of making each port the exact same which is important. The peak flow numbers are not what I look for in a all around good performing cylinder head . Peak is just a small peice of the pie .

Iron heads flowing in the 230s??

The MOST I've ever heard about for iron heads was from VPE or something and it was like low 220s, and this was all super-expensive hand ported stuff that probably cost multiple-thousands of dollars to get it to flow that much...

I'd look over where you got some of that data for the iron heads flow data... I've never heard of irons flowing in the 230s man...
 
Facepalm. Other than the first entry in my file this is not my data. It is also not new data.

Data had been compiled into a readable format by kevins but the link above is dead. I grabbed a wayback copy and posted it since the raw text version is hard to read. Not all the data from post #4 above is in the file though.

I suspect your questions should be directed to Bill Anderson... its HIS data in post #4 measured at 25" then 28". Beyond that see kevins. Like I said, nothing NEW being posted and sources given in 2001.
 
Which heads? Cleaned? I see Champion data from Bill flowing more than 180 compared to heads he clearly described as "ported". Hard to know what it is you are talking about. Mine had work done but could use a stock gasket and stock intake (not matched).

Different benches all nearly 20 years ago.
