Can someone give me detail on how to pin or install the spring keeper in the governor. I got a governor on the way and want to mod it to keep the spring from comming out.
Thanks
Tim

hi,
im sure the trans "gurus" will chime in.they helped me with the same problem.i used some of their advice and then came up with my own solution.

at the end of the small weight there is a hole that is slightly beveled to hold the spring in place.i tapped the hole and installed a screw that would extend almost the full length of the spring.be sure not to make it too long,as you need to leave room for travel for the weight.i used lock-tite to hold it in and then ground of the head of the screw almost flush with the weight.you need to grind it off for clearance.for reassurance,i put a dab of crazy glue on each end of the spring were it meets the weight and the housing .the crazy glue trick has been done by many im told.

now the installation of this screw could throw of the calibration of the weight slightly.i suggest grinding a little weight off each corner of the small weight to compensate.

this worked excellent for me.i just combined all the tricks from the advice i recieved from the many to come up with this and it worked excellent. good luck! nick,

i dont like this as it adds weight causing earlier shifts .heres the straight up solution.install the plastic tit that holds the primary spring in from a used governor on the secondary side of the governor..this always works for us.put the spring over it and your good to go.

chris,
i didnt know of that idea.ill have to look into that also as it seems pretty easy if it works.thanks for chiming in.

nick,

Chris, the plastic spring holder I saw on an old V8 gov like you describe was about 0.11" thick at the base, which puts the stock spring into coil bind and of course would change the shift points drastically. What do you do to compensate?

blue and yellow springs must be trimmed roughly six coils.sorry i forgot to mention that.at this point it is not as sensitive as you may think .we have had good luck with it as i stated earlier.give it a try.when the governor is fully extended and generating the highest upshift force the spring is not stacked, however it is more than it is without the tit as the spring fits in the recess of the crosspin.
