Is the TempurPedic hot to sleep on or does the surface breath and is therefore cooler?

Yeah from what I heard Im leaning more towards this bed than the Select Comfort. Ive heard good things about this bed and Ive heard a few slight bad things about the Select Comfort. The only thing is the tempurpedic feels nice when you lay down but Im the kinda person that sometimes I lay on my side, then about 1/2 hour later I want to roll over. And last time I remember testing out this bed it was kinda hard to roll over after you lay there for about 1/2 hour or so. Do you guys have this same problem? Thanks!

I was testing out beds from everyone. Everything from standard to double pillow top to the specialty beds. In my opinion, you will never spend to much to sleep good. In any case, I decided on the Rhapsody bed from Tempur-Pedic. The queen matress is about $3,000 and the slaes person said that before I dump that kind of money on a bed I should try a sleep number bed. He set it to 100 and I laid down. To keep it honest I did not look at the remote and just let it go until I was comfortable. My sleep number is 13 which is basically a deflated air matress so the sales guy said the Tempur-Pedic would be better for me. I laid in all the Tempur-Pedic beds and this is how they pan out.

Firm - Symphony
Softer - Classic
Even softer - Deluxe (this is what I ended up with after a delivery fiasco)
Even more softer - Rhapsody
Even softer yet - Prima
Softest out of all them - Celebrity or any pillow top

They offer more beds so make sure to talk to whomever your buying from to try them all if you need to. One thing nobody is talking about is the break-in period. I saw in an earlier post about it taking a week to get used to a Tempur-Pedic bed. What I did was simply walk heavy all over the matress on the floor before putting it on the bed. For the next few nights I just walked across the matress while brushing my teeth.

Laying on the matress at the store is a bit misleading as its been laid on by hundreds of people and is really broken in. Your new matress will be firmer until you break it in. Just keep that in mind.

As for tossing and turning, you will pretty much stop that once your used to the bed. I sleep on my back but when my girlfriend is over I will go from on my back to my side. Its not hard to do in a Tempur-Pedic but you will notice the dent you just left for a few seconds.

I cant say enough about this bed. I just wish I would have bought one sooner. My back and shoulders do not hurt at all anymore thanks to this bed.

The latest Tempur-Pedic beds have air chambers built into them to allow air to pass through the bottom of the matress. I have not had any problems with getting to hot sleeping on this bed. The sales person also said they get very few beds back with that complaint.

Well Ive heard 1 person say that this matteress gets hot after a while but everyone else has had positive results. I was alos thinking even getting a Sleep Number (cause the adjustability) and putting a Temperpudic top on it to make it soft to comform to my body. I might just try out the bed for 30 days and see how it is. I read there website and I guess they changed it cause now you try it for 30days and you have to pay for shipping ti back if you dont like it. But if it feels good at the store, it might be worth a few hundred $'s to take the 30 day in home test. Thanks fellas, and anymore suggestions keep them coming!

If you put a Tempur-Pedic matress on top of a sleep number you will just be back to having a saggy matress. In my opinion it would be a waste of money since the Tempur foam is so dense you would only notice the air matress if its deflated due to the tempur matress sagging.

Go to your local HOM, Slumberland, Matress Giant, etc.. and buy the matress from them. I was just at HOM and they still had a 90 night guarantee in the sleep express department for the Tempur-Pedic matress sets. That way you dont pay for delivery and you dont pay to ship it back if you dont like it.

Tops

Actually before we bought the TempurPedic Mattress we had bought a TempurPedic Pad at Brookstone put it on our reg Mattress worked good but it was on a huge pillow top the pillow top was too soft. So we gave the pillow top to my son and got his mattress and it worked fine. Ended up giving the T-top my wife's friend as she was hurting pretty bad so she put it on their bed and almost immeadiately she had relief. Took awhile to break it in our mattress, I like the support it's almost too hard for my wife so try and find one of the models that's suits you both.

No more flip floppin. Lookquik They actually have their own cover it's breathable. I ownly sleep with a sheet in the winter and just sleep on top so it doesn't get hot.

When the wife and went matress shopping we probably laid on every matress in town:eek: We ultimately chose a Sealy venice beach latex foam matress. It is the most comfortable matress i have ever laid on. No more lower back pain either. My sister in law was so impressed that she and her husband bought one also. We didnt like the tempurpedic foam matresses because you sank down in them. This matress is soft with just the right firmness. hope this helps, jeremy

I have 3 herniated discs... I second the plywood in between your mattress and boxspring. I got a pillowtop about 3 years back, I'd wake up stiff every morning. I finally put in the plywood and that was that....

Well, I have had low back pain since early 90's, really jerked it out of place & was borderline for surgery. Went to a Chiropractor & got me standing up straight again in 3 days. Still bugs me if I do too much (every day it seems) but would rather take the non-surgical method any day if I could.

Chris (mike) Lyons that runs the TSO class is a Chiropractor. He could possibly recommend something that hasn't been suggested yet. He also has a MOTION x-ray machine, which was AWESOME for my broken neck. It is like watching a video that looks like an x-ray, and you can move all you want! It shows where the bones & stuff is at at the extremes of your movement, and can catch something when the pain hits. Awesome stuff!!!

Got my matress from the Original Matress Factory (might be local OH company??) It was nice to try them out before buying. We got the stiffest one the wife could stand, that had a slight pillow top that I could stand. The wife sleeps on her side mostly, and was getting lots of shoulder & back pain from time to time. We added a 2" thick memory foam topper from Sams club (NOT cheap waffle style) that was around $100, and got the memory pillow for her, and her pain went right away. I sleep on my back mostly now with minimal pillow thickness. If it's a regular pillow, it's too much & my neck hurts next day or 2. WHen I kick to the side a little, the memory foam helps a lot. My arms used to fall asleep before doing that, not anymore.

Would like to try the total foam ones, but fear they are too unsupporting for me. Plywood & 2" memory foam would be perfect for me, but would be sleeping alone :( Never had ANY good sleep on ANY style of air matress, but haven't tried the sleep number one. Sams has a memory foam style matress now, seems interesting for $400-500 range.

Hope that helps! Oh yeah, best semi-permanant relief for neck & back pain for me comes from deep tissue massage & hot tubs. Haven't had time for either in a while, feeling it lately. ALso, those excersize balls, you can roll over them & stretch the back muscles out good. Ab lounger helps too, unless it turns into a coat rack :) I agree with advice above too, don't try to fix it on your own without professional advice. Love my Ibuprofin & Ultram too :D

WOW!!!! SO we end up going to MOR's furniture for less right. My brother-in-law said he got his Temperpudic from them for like 10 years no interest so we figure we give them a shot. Tried all the beds and the Temperpudic bed mostly. They all felt comfortable but we spent a lot of time on the Temperpudic ones. So we ended up getting the Delux which is not real firm and not too soft. Hopefully we will like it.

So anways Im walking around the store like an old man all huntched over from my back pain and all. Then when the guys is doing the final paperwork I sit down in this $2k massage chair. It felt real good and I got my calves and lower back massaged. HOLY CRAP!!! I got off that thing and started walking and felt NO pain. felt a little bit sore still but I was able to walk right from then on. I was AMAZED!!!! I think I might go back and get that later but for now lets see if that Temperpudic works. I didnt mind getting it since the guy said we have 90 days to try it and if we dont like it, we call them up and they pick it up. All we pay is $200 for them to pick it up. Not bad I guess considering you get a 90 day in home trial and your not stuck with a expensive mattress or having to deal with shipping it. I will let you guys know how it works out and thanks to everyone for there advice!!!

Okay so like I said we ended up getting the Tempur-Pedic Bed right. So like the first 3-4 days it feels fine. Wake up good and not sore. Then after the 4th day I woke up sore again. No biggie right, probly slept wrong. Well Ive been waking up sore ever since and at first I thought the bed had to get broken in but I dont think thats the case anymore? Any advice from the guys that have a Tempur-Pedic? How long is the break in period? Well I think we will give it maybe another month before we call it quits and send it back. And now even my wife has woken up sore a few times which had never happened before. I wonder if I need a firmer bed or what? This really sucks and I hate going to sleep now. So Ive been on like 5-6 hrs of sleep a day. Man this is soooooo fustrating!

The break in period is usually a week or so. When I got mine I walked on it for about five minutes each day to speed up the break in period and doing so is sort of a small cardio work out as well.

In any case, if your still sore you may want to consult a doctor. Check to see if there is a sleep specialist in your health plans network and go talk to them. You might need a custom bed which could be covered under insurance if a doctor recommends it.
