Folks-

I am being sold an 87 GN engine, with 2k miles since it was built. He says the engine runs 11:90's and runs without any farts, burps or indigestion :-) The gentlemen wants $5,000 for the engine which comes with the following:

Performance:

Precision polished 6765 Turbo (2k miles on it)
Alky injection
2dot rods
Extended IC
fresh Springs/valves

Stock:
Std Pistons
Worked Iron heads
Polished headers and DP

Is this worth $5,000??

It is a hard call. I see about $2k worth of add-ons.... + the "worked" heads. I don't know about the headers and DP.... if they are desireable.... there might be another $1k..... so now we are at a $2k supposedly fresh motor than ran 11.90's.

My next question would be where is the slip.... and what boost was it at..... cause he has a 9 sec turbo. I would hope the pass was on really low boost to only run a 11.90 .... or a horrible 60' time.

Who built the motor?

Can you see and hear it run before the sale?

Is it from another board member (that has good feedback) or is there a potential member that might know if the seller is trustworthy?

It could be a decent buy......

I know that doesn't help too much...... sorry.

Hello and thank you for providing your input. He is not a member and built the motor himself. The engine presently sits in his GN which he is more than will to show what the engine does. I have heard stories with regards to reliability being an issue when flatep, stock pistons and cams are used and the potential for a granade is very possible.

Just my 2 cents worth but rather than delve into the unknown build one yourself or have it done. At least that way you know exactly what you have and what your paying for. I am speaking from experience by the way
