Just installed a new stock turbo on my 87 gn has an adjustable actuator. Hooked everything back up and I get no boost what so ever and it did this with my old turbo that's why I got a new one to install and it is doing the same exact thing so it makes me think my turbo was just fine. Car runs perfect no check engine lights or anything drove it down the street just puts out no boost. PLEASE help me get my baby back on the road. Thanks very much for any help. P.s. The car is bone stock with 47 thousand miles.

Check your wastgate lines , vac lines etc, if any look dried or worn , replace them , also a good time to either clamp or zip tie the ends at the very least.

Hi installed new vaccum lines checked them all just don't get it got the car to show like 3lbs of boost at full throttel and that was it.

Hook the line straight from the compressor to the wastegate. Or and you better be carefull if you have alky crank it all the way up..if not see bold print... unhook the line going to the wastegate and give it some some gas, boost will climb FAST so if no alky left off at 10psi, if alky let it climb to 20psi...if you are not careful doing it this way YOU will blow a HG

I will try the vaccum line from the compressor to waste gate. If I get boost were do I go from there?

Well it's either you get a 2nd bad turbo or the wastegate actuator is bad or you have a big hole in your IC some were. Double check hoses on IC, but I think you are going to have to pull the IC and check it for holes. After pulling it you can fill it with water and see if it leaks out.

About the only reason I can think of that you can't make "any" boost would be a wastegate puck stuck open. A faulty solenoid wouldn't cause a "no boost" issue. Faulty vacuum lines wouldn't either, they're just not large enough to "dump all of the boost" off. But then again, if you bought a whole new turbo, you probably got a new turbine housing and puck included. Does your wastegate actuator have good tension? Is it hooked up? (had to ask).

no boost

Ok tried a ton of things today got the car to make like 5lbs of boost and a couple of shops said they think the actuator is toast. What do you guys out there think? Also if anyone knows of someone in the seattle wa area that might be able to help me out that would be great to. Thanks much

fuel

Ok so a guy that lives near me with his type did a little checking on the car and he came to say he thinks the fuel preasure regulator is bad. It is the original one from 87 so I'm not sure but ordered up a new one from the parts store along with a complete tune up. How would the MAF sensor act if it was bad? Thanks all

If MAF was bad it would run like crap. With it running give a few taps on the MAF and see what happens.

Went out started the car up gave the maf sensor a few good taps and nothing the car runs and idle's just fine so I'm guessing that means its good.

Ok everyone I went and installed a new fuel filter, fuel preasure regulator, air filter and plugs and wires. I got no respose I only get 5lbs of boost and that's it!!! Took the hose from the compressor and hook it into the accuator and got nothing. Could it be the accuator is bad? Also could I have a clogged cat also? Any and all input I receive I will try just wanna drive my baby again.

Ricky,

Where in Seattle are you located? I work downtown, and have time this afternoon to look at your car......

Send me your # via PM

Ok, guys- just got home from checking Ricky's car out. Bone stock GN, 0 mods. As stated, it builds a max of 5 psi (per the factory gauge). Actuator arm has no tension on it, so I took care of that (adjustable WG)- still the same.

Changed WG solenoid with known good- still the same.
Checked the solenoid hoses- still the same.
Checked all vac hoses for leaks- no leaks.

I'm thinking it may be the MAP sensor, as the car is building boost, but it's dumping off at 5 psi. Ricky said it did the same thing with the previous turbo/wastegate, so I ruled out a non-sealing puck.

Car starts, drives, and shifts fine (it was kinda scary to be in a stock GN!)- thoughts or ideas?

If it's truely bone stock then the MAP sensor wouldn't have anything to do with boost. All it does on the stock cars is tell the dash board gauge what the boost is. No input to the ecm or anything else for that matter.

If all hoses and lines are OK (not loosing the boost there) then you might want to take a close look at the waste gate puck its self. Could it be stuck partially open?? Original CAT? maybe it's plugged?

100% stock. I told the owner (Ricky) to take off the cat to check for restriction. When he bought the car, it was boosting fine, but gradually lost boost. I checked the IC hoses and vac lines/block for leaks, and didn't find any.

I'm with you on the puck, but he replaced the turbo/elbow assembly with a known good unit, and it's doing the same thing.

This morning, he's going to clean the engine (grease pit!), change the VC gaskets, pull the IC and clean it, and pull the cat.
